She is survived by one sibling Daniel Froehlich of Cape Coral Florida, cousins Edward and Thomas Froehlich of Chicago, other family members and her close friend of over 40 years, Mary.
Geraldine was born on January 31, 1936, raised on the North side of Chicago and as an adult, relocated to the Southside Mt Greenwood neighborhood.
After completing courses at a secretarial school, she began her career in banking. Then a posting for an administrative assistant secretarial position in the Hyde Park neighborhood caught her interest. She applied and was hired in 1976 by the Hyde Park Cooperative Society, a member owned cooperative grocery store.
She was responsible for monthly and annual shareholders reports and worked closely on her work with former 5th ward alderman and attorney Leon Despres whom she greatly admired. She retired in January 2000.
Many thanks to Irene Boyer who fostered her beloved dog Macy, Susan McNicholas and family, Carrie and Brian Fitzmaurice, Sean for adopting Fritz her kitty, Sabina her caregiver while she convalesced at home, and other neighbors who kept a watchful eye on her. Also, a special thanks to Mr. Mack her postman.
She was entrusted to Andrew J McGann funeral home and wished to be cremated. A memorial service is to be determined. If any donations are considered, please give to an animal shelter of your choice.
