Sorry to hear about Jean's passing.  We cross paths several times in our careers.

I took about 7 classes from Moraine Valley quite a while ago (a great instructor); I worked with Jean as we were both Daley College employees, and I met her at the University of Chicago in the Oncology Department a few years ago.

A wonderful person!




Jean was a great friend if mine at Moraine Valley. The two of us could roll out a deal over dinner and cocktails at Nikos. I lost track of her when she headed over to city colleges but did manage to grab a lunch or two at Portillos until about 10 years ago. I was really saddened to see she had passed. Her baudy humor was a match for my own. Rest well my friend. We will meet again in the great beyond.

My dear friend and mentor will always have a piece of my heart,  her wisdom & compassion was second to none! Love you Jean

On behalf of my mother and I,  I wish to send my deepest condolences to the entire Johnson Family.  May God wrap you in healing strength and peace during this difficult time.  Jean was a kind-hearted woman, who always said what was on her mind, willing to help others, and was there for us during our time of need. What started as simple chatting in church turned into a friendship. RIP Jean.

She knew me so well !!! I miss forcing her to cuddle in bed with Veronica or me randomly going in her bed to sleep at night and she would wake up with me next to her and I miss her laughing at me (well holding back her laughs) even though you can tell she wanted to laugh so bad sometimes one would slip out. She was an amazing lady and the foundation of the Johnson family she will truly be missed. I love and miss her.

What a great person , she was always upbeat, I met her 5 years ago at Daley College , starting my first day ( Security / afternoons)  she was so welcoming. Very genuine person , she will be missed by all. God bless!

Jean was such a caring, giving person with an extraordinary sense of humor.  When I visited her in the hospital she was concerned about how Renee was doing.  She certainly touched us.  She'll be missed.

Jean was an inspiration to all of us and her spirit, spunk, sense of humor and dedication to helping others will be greatly missed. 
She was a great lady and friend.

This is very sad news for everyone.  She surely was one of a kind person that will be truly missed.

What a tremendous loss to us all.  Celebrating a life well-lived by our friend Jean today and the todays to come!!!

Jean is a true example of making the most of each and every day.  A model for all.  Her loss will be deeply felt by many people whose lives she touched.

Such very sad news-I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Jean.  I am keeping her family in my thoughts and prayers.

Jean was a treasure.  She set an example for the world and how to live with energy, enthusiasm and kindness.  Her commitment to making a difference for others will help guide my journey, always.

We are all unique in our own way, but Jean was truly one of a kind.  Her spirit, energy and commitment were something that we can all draw from.  There is no question that I will never forget Jean Johnson.



It’s still so surreal to me that you’re gone. You touched so many lives and I’m beyond thankful that I got to be a part of it. You were one of the most compassionate people, drawing people to you. The world has gotten a little darker without you in it but our sky will be a whole lot brighter with you up there looking down on us. You’ll be missed by so many. Love you Aunt Jean. 

You know what she meant to all of us and especially to me, ( I really was always her favorite, everybody knows that). I am truly truly truly just so grateful to have had her for my whole life like that, really, who could expect to get as lucky as that? She was like another Mom for me and I don't know how to say more than that. She was the best, she made us better and I don't know who I would be without her. Thank you for those days we sat in your kitchen  having coffee and I would ask for advise and you always told me good advise. Thanks for being the greatest neighbor!!!! May you Rest In Peace. 

Jean, so many memories over my life time. Some great some not so great. But you were always there. Being your youngest brother I can’t begin to say how much you meant to me and my family. Always there for support thru our hardest time. But let’s not forget all the joy you brought into our life.  Words cannot say how much I will miss you. Love Ricki.

I thank Jean for sharing her celebrations and challenges with me and being an exceptional listener when I offered mine. She was a person who lived and loved fully and  always put her family first. Though she will be missed greatly, her laughter and smile will be with us for many years to come.  In this season of Easter, may the belief of our shared everlasting connection one to another bring you peace.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Jean. We volunteered together at the University of Chicago Hospital, in the Oncology Dept. on Thursdays. Those afternoons were special because of her. Jean had a uncanny sense of humor, she never failed to make me smile. wishing you the peace of God that brings comfort, the strength of God to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. To the Johnson Family:
Jean was my boss for 6 yrs. I have wonderful memories of her. I was fortunate to have know little bit of your family through her stories she shared with me. She loved her children, but she loved her grandkids and great-grandkids even more. My day always began with "So did you do anything fun this weekend"?  The last question of the day was " So whatcha make for dinner"?
Always knew her lunch time was sacred
That was her time no distractions or disturbances. She was a good woman and never took any crap from anybody.
Was never afraid to put you in your place and was always there to defend you. She always said "Never lie or be dishonest because it will always bite you in the ass".  I miss her deeply- when she left Daley it left a hole in our hearts. Coming to work was just routine ...we lost our teacher,mentor,defender and most importantly our FRIEND!

My heartfelt sadness for all the Johnson family.  Such an unexpected loss.  We were suppose to travel together in December for the SIDM convening ,and Jean had to cancel ,as she was not feeling well.  She was bright and articulate and a blessing to have known.  We laughed together and were open to challenge each other’s thoughts.  I know you are in Gods hands .  Miss you.

I have memories of many family get togethers at Aunt Jean’s home. All the cousins hanging out together, everyone enjoying Aunt Jean’s amazing home made food and baked goods, and all the aunts and uncles cracking jokes while playing cards. Aunt Jean has been caring for people for many years and she will be greatly missed! We may not have been all that close but I hope that she knows that we are thinking of her and Uncle Doug, Jan, Julie, Jamie, Joe, and all the rest of the family. ❤️

Mrs. Johnson. My heart breaks for your husband and family. You always left the door open for all of us crazy kids and put up with so much. We felt like family in your home. I remember gorgeous and delicious cakes always on the counter. You raised such wonderful human beings and did so much for the community and the neighborhood. I’m sorry if we ever caused you trouble. You were such a strong woman and admired and loved by so many. Thank you for everything you did for your family and those you welcomed into your home with open arms. You will be greatly missed but you left a tremendous impact on this world! Thank you and Rest In Peace with the Angels. Angels do walk amount us.

Auntie Jean, I have so many memories at your house growing up.  From my first perm to hanging out with the cousins upstairs at Christmas parties to playing the card game “31” (with quarters because that is the ONLY way you played).  One of my fondest memories is when I stopped by your house as a young (rebellious) adult and we sat on the couch and just hung out, you smoked a cigarette with me, and let me open up to you.  No judgement whatsoever.  You were the coolest Aunt!  You were also such a kind soul and I know you were loved and cherished by so many.  So glad I was able to see you last year and give you one last hug. My thoughts and prayers will be with Uncle Doug and the rest of the family through this difficult time.  Love to you all. 

My sister Jean was more than just a sister. Jean was my surrogate mother. I spent most of my childhood included as one of her children. I have so many memories , too many to share now but one was:  Christmas morning waking up at 3am to open presents going to get White Castle and getting excited about opening the gazillon gifts that she secretly hid in the trunk of her car.. yes I figured that out Jean! 
I was her little sister that she provided a roof over my head when I was kicked out of my house by my mother ... not that I deserved that .. I did! She helped me financially and emotionally prepare for my  wedding and was even a bridesmaid.. without complaining about the ugly dresses or hats I choose for my bridal party.. she supported me no matter! I remember coming home late every night from work to a homemade meal cooked and set aside for me every night. What a cook! I still remember begging her to teach me to cook. The family had to suffer with one meal a week prepared by Beth.. no comment Doug! 
She was my friend.. all grown up and raising my own children she taught me what it meant to love unconditionally.. I saw the way she loved her children     and grandchildren . The way I love my children was truly inspired by her example. Jean was a lot to me and I know she touched the hearts and souls of many.. I will miss her deeply but will know that her life was not wasted and her memory will go on through all those people she loved and loved her back. Rest In Peace now Jean and give mom and dad my love.❤️

I grew up next door to Jean Johnson. She fed us Koehler boys and cut our hair as we grew up. We would have starved without her. Jean will be missed greatly. My prayers go out  to the Johnson family. 

Most of my childhood memories of this side of our family were at your house.  The boys were usually up in Joey's room and the girls with Jamie.  Great homemade food filled the tables.  You're loved and will be missed.  Rest in peace, Aunt Jean.

Thelma - I can’t even begin to say how much I will miss you - you always had my back - thru all  our adventures and misadventures.  You were mom, big sister and best friend all rolled up into one lovable, crazy,  cranky lady and I loved you for it.  When I began to think about the people i needed to share your passing with, I realized how many lives you touched, how many lost souls you took into your heart- from Mike , Luther, Kevin Smith, Kevin Malone, Ninos, Joe, Brian, Wendell and most of all Eric- all of your sons inside - thank you-  Love Forever - Louise 💔

Thank you for everything you have done for the family and community. You've touched so many people's lives. I looked up to you and wanted to be just like you growing up and that's why I became a cosmetologist. You raised my daughter and I'll forever be grateful for all the help you've given me and Veronica and Nico.  I'm gonna miss your cooking. Christmas will never be the same. How are we going to tell Nico? The last time I saw him, he told Veronica and I how much he misses you. I love you so much Mommy! I'm happy I got to tell you that one last time before you left. I know you're no longer in pain. Give Moonie and Oscar my love. Please let Lucy know how much I love her. I'll think of you everyday. Please bring Veronica, Nico, and I back together. Rest in peace, Mom. I love you.

I don’t think I told you enough how much you meant to me,  not only my teacher, boss, friend but family! Love you and always will! Forever gratefull to have meet a kind soul.
