

Jean “Mickey”Strus (nee Hyzy); 6-23-23 to 6-22-16, passed away one day shy of her 93rd birthday at Smith Village. Previously lived in Oak Lawn and Chicago’s East Side. Wife of the late Harold “Loafy”, CFD and daughter of the late Walter and Marie (nee Lewandowski) Hyzy. Married May 31, 1947, St. Patrick’s Church, Commercial Avenue, Chicago. Mother to Pam (Jim Sr.) Deiters, Paula (Craig) Ergang, Barbara (Jim) Marinaro, Steve Strus and Cheryl (Stuart) Ryan. Fond grandmother of Jim( Erika) Deiters Jr., Jeanne (John) Byrne, David, Daniel, Matthew, and Mark (Robbie) Deiters, Stacey (Adam) Parsons, Heidi (Brad) Kaye and Kate Ergang, Emily, Tony, and Joey Marinaro. Much loved GG to eleven great-grandchildren. Oldest sister to Sue (the late Glenn) Wyatt, the late Thaddeus “Sonny” (the late Mary), Edward, Robert “Dave”, Richard “Butch”(Millie),Thomas (Helen and the late Pat), Walter “Andy” (Carol), William “Apple” (Mary Ellen) Hyzy, and Judy (the late Robert) Nehls. Sister-in-law of John (Mary Jane) Strus, the late Dorothy (the late John) Chavka and Frances (Rudy) Novak. Aunt and great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Graduate of Bowen H.S., former credit manager at Gassman’s in South Chicago, Jean enjoyed dancing especially at her 85th birthday party, the White Sox, working crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, watching Dancing with the Stars, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Known for baking hundreds of Christmas cookies: spritz, teaballs and kolacky in her little kitchen on Ewing Ave. Visitation Saturday, June 25th,9:30 AM at St. Walter Church, 118th & Western Ave., Chicago, until time of Mass 10:30 AM.
