Today, we celebrate a deeply cherished life: that of Jose Dolores Vega Jr., a devoted and faithful man with a kind and generous heart, whose presence brought a sense of calm, confidence, and unmistakable warmth. Possessing serene patience and a strength forged through resilience, he supported his loved ones with tenderness, honesty, and a wisdom evident in both his words and his silences. He also had a touch of humor that lightened the day and brought people together—a simple yet unforgettable gift.
He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran; his time in service reflected his courage, industrious spirit, and selfless sense of duty. He lived with that same determination and inspiration, embodying integrity and leaving behind an example that endures in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.
He was the beloved husband of Gloria Calvario Cortes; the extraordinary father of Angie, Perla, and Bruno; the cherished son of the late Jose & Teresa Vega and Cristina Vega, and of his mother Angela Mendoza; the beloved brother of Maria (Joaquin), Hortencia, Teresa (Jorge), Luis, and Yolanda (Alberto); the unforgettable uncle of Diana, Elisa, Gaby, Lucas, and Alex; the godfather of Adriana and Jorge Jr.; and a dear cousin and close friend to many. His loyalty and kindness were felt in every relationship, and his love—always considerate and compassionate—left a lasting mark.
His curiosity and adventurous spirit were evident in his love for traveling the world during his time in the Navy. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle back in the day, and later, his Dodge Ram truck, which he continued to drive on road trips across the United States. However, what he enjoyed most was spending time with his pets—Tiger, Mia, Bella, Harley, and, above all, Edward—who were a source of daily joy and reflected his gentle, loving spirit.
On behalf of his family, we extend our gratitude to everyone for your condolences, support, and presence during this time of sorrow. May God bless you always.
