Josephine “Josie” Guidice, a beloved wife, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was the devoted wife of 64 years to her loving husband, Joe, with whom she shared a true and enduring love story.
Born and raised in the Chicagoland area, Josie was the only child of her cherished parents, who immigrated from Poland. She remained deeply connected to her heritage throughout her life, fluent in Polish and proud of her family’s roots. Together with Joe, she made a warm and welcoming home on Devon Avenue, a house she adored and meticulously cared for, turning it into one of the cleanest, most beautiful homes in the neighborhood—complete with the best lawn on the block.
Josie was a woman of energy, elegance, and grace. Athletic and outgoing, she loved being outdoors—rollerblading, biking, swimming, and playing tennis. She and Joe were world travelers, visiting 85 countries across six continents. She especially loved the Hawaiian Islands, returning 26 times to enjoy their beauty and spirit. A lifelong animal lover, Josie had a special fondness for koalas and elephants—“God’s creatures” as she affectionately called them.
A woman of deep compassion and quiet strength, Josie spent 50 plus years working at Catholic Charities in an administrative role. She was respected for her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and caring spirit. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always more concerned with the well-being of others—especially her husband, Joe—even in her final days.
Those who knew Josie will remember her as a classy, elegant lady with a heart full of kindness, a mind full of determination, and a soul that radiated love. Though Parkinson’s brought many hardships in her later years, she carried herself with courage and dignity until the very end.
She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by Joe, her extended family, and the many lives she touched.
