

Marie Helen Nealis (nee Polo) was born September 7th, 1951 to Alberico Polo and Catherine Morien. She passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on April 1st, 2025. Marie is survived by her devoted husband James, they were married for 42 years. Marie is also survived by her children Patrick (Leeza), Monica (Dylan), and Laura (Dale); her cherished grandchildren Connor, Alexandra, Liam, and Violet, with a fifth soon to arrive; her brother James Polo (late Margaret "Marge"); numerous nieces and nephews, and many loving relatives. Marie was a friend to many and was known for her kind nature.
Marie grew up in Chicago in St. Leo parish where she met lifelong friends, and continued those friendships while at Academy of Our Lady (Longwood). Marie graduated with a bachelor's in psychology from Quincy College before her rewarding career in the Social Security Administration.
Marie was known as a thoughtful person to everyone she met. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or celebration. She taught that to have a friend, you needed to be a friend. Marie's spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
A visitation and service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, family and friends gathering from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Andrew J. McGann & Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Road, Chicago followed by a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. at McGann & Son Funeral Home. Interment Private.
