

BUTLER--Michael J., A real estate financier and investor, who turned around real estate loans and distressed housing and commercial property portfolios for the State of New York under Governor Hugh Carey between 1978-1982 and throughout his career in private sector banks, including Chase Manhattan in New York and Credit Lyonnais in Chicago, died on November 14, 2013 in Chicago, IL. The cause was cancer, said his wife real estate developer and financier Karen Butler. In addition to his wife, Karen S Butler, Mr. Butler is survived by a son, Michael Butler of Redlands, CA, two brothers William Butler, Esq. (Hyannis Port, MA) and Dr. Christopher Butler (Pittsburgh, PA), seven nieces and nephews and their four children. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Grace B. Martin of Palm Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his father and mother, William F. Butler and Dawn Ludington Butler (Hyannis Port, MA), stepmother Edith Surprenant Butler (Osterville, MA) and a brother, Patrick M. Butler (Centreville, MA). Memorial Services will be celebrated at St. Bartholomew's Church, New York, NY on December 12, 2013 at 5pm and Women's Athletic Club, 626 N. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL on December 3, 2013 at 5pm. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Centreville, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation (NMFF), 675 N. St Clair, Chicago, IL in honor of Michael Butler and Dr. Steven Newman, Hematology-Oncology.
