In Loving Memory of Roberto Pascual Ibanez
With great sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Roberto Ibanez, who entered eternal rest on October 14, 2026.
Roberto was born in Mexico on April 12, 1959, to Esteban and Agustina Ibanez. As a young boy he traveled from Mexico to Chicago alongside his mother and sisters Monica and Lupe, beginning a new chapter in the city he would proudly call home for the remainder of his life.
Roberto grew up in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood alongside his four sisters before the family eventually moved to the Lakeview area. Growing up in Chicago meant Roberto developed a love for his hometown teams, proudly cheering on the Cubs and Blackhawks. His football loyalty, however, belonged to the Dallas Cowboys.
As a young boy, Roberto played hockey for the neighborhood boys and girls club as a goalie, earning numerous trophies over the years. He was so talented that he earned the nickname “Little Esposito,” a tribute to one of the great goalies in Blackhawks history. Throughout his life, he went by many names, including Robbie, Mario, and Shorty, each one carrying its own memories and stories.
Roberto knew how to enjoy life, sometimes a little too much, but he lived it his way and made as many memories as he could along the way. He enjoyed spending time at the bars, flirting with the ladies, playing pool, listening to his favorite oldies, and making friends wherever he went. He had a way of striking up conversations and leaving an impression on the people he met. And if there was a memory worth keeping, you could be sure he would capture it with his camera. Roberto loved taking pictures and documenting the many moments, big and small, that made up his life.
Roberto also took great pride in his appearance. He made sure his hair never gave away his true age, always wanting to look his best. As he would proudly say, he had to look good for the ladies! His charm, sense of humor, and unmistakable personality were simply part of what made him Roberto.
Although Roberto never married or had children of his own, he was blessed with a large family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, whom he loved as if they were his own. He enjoyed teasing and annoying them whenever he had the chance, but beneath that playful troublemaking was a man who cherished their company. Whether talking, joking around, sharing stories, or simply spending time together, Roberto found joy in being part of their lives. His love for his family was expressed in his own unique way, and the memories they shared with him will remain in their hearts forever.
Roberto will be remembered for his humor, his charm, his love of sports and music, his countless photographs, and his ability to make memories wherever life took him. He lived a life full of stories, laughter, friendships, and family. Though his time here has come to an end, the memories he created and the love he leaves behind will continue to live on in all those who knew him.
Roberto is survived by his parents, Esteban and Agustina Ibanez; his sisters, Monica, Rosa, and Anita; and his late sister, Lupe, whom he will always be connected to through the bond of family.
He leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Veronica, Jessica, Juliet, Laura, Adrian, Victoria, Beto, Maria, Jasmin and Sabrina, as well as his great-nieces and great-nephews, Angelina, Valerie, Annabelle, Brianna, Elizabeth, Adiel, Xavier, David, Nathaniel, Lily, Jaxon, Maverick, Bryan, Julian, Andrew, and Cierra.
Roberto will be deeply missed by his family and all those whose lives he touched. His stories will continue to be told, his photographs will preserve precious memories, and his humor, charm, and love of life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Roberto you will always remembered, deeply missed and forever loved. May you rest in eternal peace.
