Spiro was preceded in death by his parents, Gerasimos and Amalia Spyratos, and siblings Dionisoula, Demetri, and Elli. He is survived by his devoted wife, Anastasia who was the light of his life; loving children,
Jerry Spyratos, Emily Mastorakis (Michael) and Jimmy Spyratos; his adoring grandchildren, Eleni Moran (Paul) and Demetri Mastorakis; his dear siblings, George, Eleftheria, Maria, as well as a multitude of cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
From humble beginnings as a shepherd in Atheras, Spiro grew to embody the spirit of hard work and dedication. He and Anastasia were childhood sweethearts, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Spiro ventured to Belgium and Germany for work before immigrating his family to Chicago in search of a better life. There, he became a successful business owner, running the Golden Nugget Restaurant for many years, where his wife and children were also an integral part of the family legacy.
Two of Spiro's greatest passions were music and gardening. He filled family gatherings with joy, playing his accordion and singing during celebrations and holidays. His garden, a colorful wonderland bursting with life, was renowned for its bountiful tomatoes and dandelion greens.
Every summer, Spiro spent memorable days in Cephalonia and Aegina, where he built a summer home for his family, swimming in the crystal-clear waters and fishing for octopus with his bare hands.
Above all, Spiro cherished his family, who were his pride and joy. As a proud member of the Cephalonian Brotherhood, he embodied an independent and headstrong spirit, always loving his family fiercely and making numerous sacrifices for their happiness. Spiro was full of life, energy, and humor, leaving a deep impact on the hearts of everyone he encountered. Though he has left this world, Spiro will always be remembered for his warmth, laughter, and the endless love he gave to those fortunate enough to call him family.
He will be profoundly missed.
