I have many fond memories of Tom Hynes that I will never forget one that I will share is that my family and I were having dinner one evening @ Greek Islands in Greektown on Halsted there must of been 10 of us including my mother and father I had just recently started working there @ the Assessors office as a clerk s relatively low level position however I was still young @ the time and when I started had the opportunity to meet him for the time personally while sitting conversing @ our table I noticed from afar that Tom was there as well having dinner my brother in law was next to me when I noticed him I told him that we met briefly when he said to me he probably doesn’t even remember you as they meet and see so many people everyday in their position nevertheless I decided to go to his table to say hello. When I arrived there he immediately stood up from his chair and greeted shacked my hand he then went on to introduce me to his wife and rest of his family that were . He asked me who I there with I said My mom and Dad and some family . He then said would u mind if I go say hello to them I was a little surprised but gladly surprised we then went together to our table where he met my family I remember introducing him to them all as he shook all their hands and spoke so highly of me my mother and father looked @ me after he spoke I could see they were proud of his kind words. He made me feel like I really mattered not to mention my brother in law who was speechless . But what I remembered most of that encounter was when at our table I said to my family this Mr Thomas Hynes Assessor who I work  for when he Modestly said to me in front of my family quote no Ralph I work for you and put his arm around me . He then wished us all well and went back to his table that to me was a special moment I will never forget a few minutes after a waitress came to our table and offered us a beverage of our choosing compliments of Tom Hynes and Family . So cheers to you Tom ❤️


 I will always have fond memories of Tom Hynes for I was one of the many souls he touched and made a difference of  in the lives of so many.   I had the good fortune of working in his office shortly after he became Assessor in 1979.    As a young 20 year old and uncertain about my future after a few weeks had passed  I was informed  that the Assessor wanted to meet with me. When I met him in his office I  was  so nervous  .He  then he got up from his desk came towards me shook my trembling hands and  told me it was a pleasure to meet me, apologizing for not seeing me sooner.  Its hard to explain but I  never had anybody make me feel so special and welcomed as he did.    He was like a Father figure to me always looking out in my interest and my family. I went on to work under his tenure in office  off and on always leaving his door open for me  in various positions until he retired from Office .His loving , caring , kindness , and humbleness shined through always.   He was truly the Best of all  Best  in the Arena. God  Bless  The Honorable Mr.  Thomas C. Hynes . Ralph Rodriguez and Family.

I met Senator Tom Hynes when I arrived in the Capitol fresh out of college in 1973. He was a welcoming, gracious, informed, engaging and encouraging a public servant as one could ask for as a friend, a mentor and a professional. Our careers were intertwined during the succeeding decades as much of my early career was devoted to Illinois tax policy and many visits with President and Assessor Hynes. Tom Hynes had a knack for recruiting and keeping talented staff who represented him and his offices with dignity and respectability.  He was friendly, approachable and a good listener who projected a genuine desire for making good public policy decisions and representing the interests of "good government", a term we don't hear very much in contemporary times. 

He was an elected official for whom the term "Honorable" truly fit. I am proud to have known and worked with The Honorable Thomas C. Hynes. He was a friend I respected. I am so very glad to have known him and to have acquired positive memories of our time and experiences together. Doug Whitley

Tom was a wonderful person and great friend to my husband George Hanlon and myself. We all met while working for the City of Chicago and we will always remember his kindness and gentle nature. Sending our heartfelt condolences in this time of sorrow. We pray for Tom's family and ask God to welcome him home.
