Facebook Post:  Yesterday, we lost someone very dear to me and my children.  He was a father figure for me and I called him Dad, Poppa, Pops.  Over the years he taught me how a woman should be treated and how a real man loves unconditionally!  My children were blessed beyond measure, and we all loved him so.  Today, please pray for his wife and family.  I will miss him greatly.

Eulogy for William R. Kuhl  4/18/15

Every once in a great while you meet a man that you know is special, that you find yourself thinking of after you've met him, that stays on your mind.  The kind of person that you know makes the same impression on other people when they meet him. He's the kind of person people want to be around: sincere, honest, genuine, selfless and always consistent with these qualities. You can tell that this is who he is.  He doesn't know any other way to be.  The way he shakes your hand, the way he looks you in the eye, the way you know that you are the only one in the room that he is listening to, you know that you've met someone exceptional.  You look forward to your next meeting. When you do, you hope the relationship continues and strong bonds are built. You develop a trust, a connection that you cherish, knowing that every time you are with him, you're inspired to be a better person.  You spend more time with him, the handshakes turn into hugs, the communication expands to a knowing glance that can speak better than words.  You spend enough time with him and you get to know him well enough, that you trust him, you're proud to introduce him to others and to be associated with him.  You can see that he has the same effect on others. You are all better for knowing him. 

If you're blessed, you eventually have him as your husband, Dad, Father In-law Grandpa, uncle or your friend.   You have a bond for life that can be rekindled in a moment, even after years of being apart, knowing that he will always be there. He's a man that would put others before himself.  

This person is our Dad, Bill Kuhl, the life we are celebrating today.  

Our Dad was devoted to God, his wife, family, friends and the welfare of others.  

His Family shaped who he was. There were 6 children in our Dad's family. He was the 5th of five brothers with a younger sister Rosemary..who, by the way, was the safest girl on the block.  The Kuhl Family  in addition to instilling good character in their kids, had a family whistle that they would use. It wasn't like any whistle you have heard, it sounded like this. 

So my Dad incorporated this into is family.  My Dad would come home from work, clean-up from a day of laying brick, put on fresh cloths, possibly take a nap before dinner and when it was time for dinner, if my sisters and I were out playing in the neighborhood, he would sound the Kuhl whistle.  Now I know we are in the age of technology, but as soon as that whistle when off, all the other kids in the neighborhood would start yelling Kuhl Kids, it's time to come home! It was like a game of telephone that was faster than any instant message and the three of us would run all the way home. He had us trained really well. 

Our Dad enjoyed simple pleasures in life that included: Hershey bars, Chocolate shakes, Coffee with too much cream and sugar, and Rye bread with Butter and Jelly. He loved Family parties and picnic's where he would play cards and games and beat most in horseshoes.singing songs around the piano and playing the harmonica.  Always lighting up the party with his infectious laugh and giving compliments that made you feel special.  

Fate had sounded the Kuhl Whistle for our Dad many times throughout his life in stories that are truly unbelievable, from his time in the military, as a private airplane pilot, in his travels, auto accidents, illnesses and in construction.  

I will share one example. ( Truck Rolling over) 



Dad, while you were able to defy fate many times, God has sounded the final Kuhl whistle ending a truly remarkable life on earth.

Dear Dianna, Kathy & Bill, 
Your email brought tears to my eyes. I am so saddened to hear this news about your dad. Everybody loved him. I will be praying for peace (of mind) for all of you and especially your mom. They made such a great couple.

There are no words to convey how much my heart hurts for your loss.  Your dad was an amazing man in so many ways.  I have always had such an admiration for your mom and dad and the way they raised your family.  We are here praying for you all.  And sending hugs to each and every one of you.  It is the saddest part of life but knowing he is with the Lord gives us hope and strength.  I hope someone puts a harmonica in his hands. xoxo

Dear Dianna,
I was so sad to hear about Uncle Bill when my brother Bill called.  It was just the night before when I was going through our bills, a photo of uncle Bill and Aunt Martha and all the grandkids fell out from Easter 2013. I looked it over and smiled thinking of you all. And the next day, Uncle Bill passed away.
I am grateful I was able to visit with him over the recent reunions and Christmases. I just know he saw my mother in me, and his eyes would always light up.
My love and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. I treasure all the times we were together.

My heart goes out to all of you, and I will hold you in my heart and prayers.

I was in Michigan yesterday looking for business and I found myself on a golf course. I started talking to your dad, which I find myself doing more and more.
Uncle Bill is very inspirational and I feel him around me. I love you and want you to know my prayers are with all of you.

Dear Dianna & Jim,
Paul & I just learned today about your terrible loss. We know there are no words to help you in these terrible times of sorrow but we are thinking of you all
Dianna, Sophie & I will always cherish the memory of playing Scrabble with your dad & your mum  we only met him that once but we could tell he was a very special gentleman.
Please   if you can  let us know your mum's address as we would like to send her a note and our warmest condolences.

Fate had sounded the Kuhl Whistle for our Dad many times throughout his life in stories that are truly unbelievable, from his time in the military, as a private airplane pilot, in his travels, auto accidents, illnesses and in construction.  

I will share one example. He and his brother, Joe, bought two construction trucks and related equipment for use in their Brick Contracting company, Keystone Construction.  They drove up to Madison, Wisconsin after work to bring the trucks back to Chicago.  On the floor of the front seat passenger side of Dad's truck were four large saw blades.  The two brothers started driving the trucks back in the wee hours of the morning, Dad in front, and Joe behind him.  Dad fell asleep at the wheel.  His truck crossed the median and the opposite highway lane.  It went off the road and rolled over four times before coming to a rest.  Dad found himself sitting on the top of the cab with his rosary at his feet.  He decided to climb out to see what damage he had sustained to his own body.  He had not a scratch on him.

Our thoughts of Uncle Bill....so kind, patient, caring, gentle, proud and very much loved. His smile would light up a room and as Ryan would say " a great chess teacher!"  So saddened for the family, but we can't help but smile when we think of him.

Bill was a kind, gentle, caring, wonderful man- every time I would see him, he would give me a big hug and always made me feel so welcome.  Watching his interaction with his grandchildren was precious-playing chess, board games, piano and especially his harmonica;  he was an integral part of their lives and will always live on in their hearts. Bill was a perfect husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he leaves his lovely wife, 3 beautiful children and their families as a legacy.  He will be so missed!  Love, Pat and Nancy

Uncle Bill always made every person feel special.  If he had a minute or an hour, he took the time to listen and always had a great story.  I know he will be missed by so many . . . xo

Bill and Janene, We were so sorry to hear about your loss.  Your Dad was such a great man.  Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I always loved when Uncle Bill would just pull out his harmonica, and just start to play.  I am so glad I was able to visit with Uncle Bill at our reuinions, and will always remember his kindness, and clear blue eyes. What an amazing man. I'm so happy we were able to visit as much a we did in the recent years.  He always had the time to listen, and laugh with you and share a few stories.  I'm sure there is quite the reunion going on now in heaven! xoxo

I believe that my dad (Bob) greeted his younger brother Bill, with open arms when he walked through the pearly gates (along with his other family members and friends cheering him on). I like to think that they are playing baseball in heaven with the rest of the Mozart Alley Rats.  I will miss seeing Uncle Bill's smiling face at the family picnics and at weddings. He was a good man and I know he will be missed. (2Timothy 4:7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.") Scripture also tells us that we should not let our hearts be troubled because we have the blessed assurance that someday we too will see him again in Paradise.   John 14:1-3

I will always remember Uncle Bill's hearty laugh and his sheer enjoyment in seeing everyone at family parties. We will all miss him dearly.
