Ziggy was born in Germany and had fond memories of spending time with his maternal grandmother on the family farm. At a young age, his family emigrated to the United States and established their home in the northside of Chicago on Walton street. He was the eldest of three boys and had a dog named Kado. He is remembered for always protecting his brothers against the street gangs on Walton. His brother is very grateful for the way Ziggy was always there, making sure they didn't get beat up for refusing to join. After graduating from Holy Trinity High School, he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam war where he served honorably until 1969. He then worked in electrical manufacturing with Bodine Electric for many years and took much pride in his work. He loved photography, radio, and tinkering with electronics. Over his life he collected many types of cameras, radios, and recording machines. You could find boxes and boxes of audio tapes in his home as he loved recording music and adding vocals over it like a disc jockey. He shared his life with his spouse, Nimfa, whom he continued to love dearly beyond her passing in 2010. That year was very difficult for him as he also lost his younger brother within the same week.
Years later, he faced another war with Parkinson's disease, which is now associated with exposure to certain herbicides used during the Vietnam war. Ziggy was a very independent person who enjoyed taking long walks, so the effects of this disease took a heavy toll on him. After many years and losing almost all mobility, God ended his pain on August 22, 2024.
He is survived by his youngest brother, nieces, and grandnephews.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to the individuals at Generations Regency and Vitas Healthcare who went out of their way to ensure he received proper care during the last stage of his life. For anyone that brought him comfort and a smile during that challenging time, thank you.
