Calvin R. McCarthy

Mr. McCarthy, originally from New Washington, Ohio, moved to Alabama with his family to continue his career in the dairy industry. A devoted farmer, he was heavily involved in the Holstein Association and eventually retired as Associate Director from EV Smith Research Center Dairy Unit at Auburn University.

Calvin is survived by his son Brian McCarthy; his daughters Shelley Harris (Marty); Rene Horton; and Valerie Montague (Lee); his brothers Butch McCarthy and Mike McCarthy, his sisters Peggy Upton and Linda Long; his grandchildren Christina Hitchcock (Wes), Erik Prickett (Rene), Brandy Mooney (Michael), Christopher Horton (Jessica), and Leah Bailey (Tim) and his 12 Great Grandchildren. In his later years, his great grandchildren were his source of energy and pride. A favorite pastime was watching his great grandchildren run and cause chaos in his home.

Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Margaret McCarthy; his father Ralph McCarthy and his mother Helen McCarthy; his brothers Donald McCarthy, Bud McCarthy, and Paul McCarthy; and his grandchild Chad Prickett.

A visitation for Calvin will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
