

Wilsonville: Mr. Frank T. Owen, Jr. of Wilsonville died October 15, 2010 at the VA Hospital in Birmingham. He was 59 years old. Mr. Owen was a graduate of Fairfield High School. Following graduation, he enrolled in the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Owen attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a B.S. degree in Accounting. After working as an accountant in Atlanta, he began a successful career with Jim Burke Automotive, where he was known as "THE Jaguar Salesman of Birmingham". During his stellar career in the automotive industry, he received numerous awards, including the company’s highest honor, the “Salesman of the Year” award, on multiple occasions. Following his retirement, Mr. Owen moved to Lay Lake with his wife, Sue. He became a Catholic in 2003, and was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Childersburg, AL where he served as a cantor. Mr. Owen was preceded in death by his father, Frank T. Owen, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sue Owen of Wilsonville; a daughter, Erin Owen of Birmingham; a son, Zachary Owen of Nashville, TN; his mother, Mrs. Jimmie Owen of Birmingham; two sisters: Bonnie Martin (David) of Birmingham and Judy Kneisley (Martin) of Birmingham; a brother, William Owen (Donna) of Birmingham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Jack and Rocky. A Rosary service led by Father Thomas Wood will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Curtis and Son Funeral Home’s Childersburg Chapel, and will be followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 19th at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Childersburg, AL at 10:00 a.m. with Father Tom Wood officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery on Hwy. 150 in Hoover with military honors. Serving as pall bearers will be Bob Matthews, Daniel Belk, Peter Wilker, William Owen, Martin Kneisley and Steve Burgess. The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made in Mr. Owen’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
