What can I say?  Peggy was a dear sister.  Like it has always been said Peggy was one of a kind.  When her mind was made up there was no changing how she felt.  Peggy, Jane and I grew up together.  However, Jane was a baby and didn't get to participate in all our arguments that we would have growing up.  We could fight like cats and dogs one minute and then be the best of friends.  All the memories I have of Peggy I will carry in my heart forever and we loved each other dearly.  For instance there were many stories about when we had to sleep together when we were young.  I'm sure you all have heard each and every story.  I will never forget that every time we got together or talked on the phone she would ask me this question, "Tilda, how old are you?"  To which I would reply, "I'm four years younger than you Peg."  She would always have a "word" to say back to me and then we would have a big laugh.  I think she was hoping that I would one day forget and say that I was four years older than her.  The heffer always had a way with words.  :)  I could write all day about the stories that we had together but the more I write the more sad I get.

Bob, Vicky, and Jennifer, I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am about the loss of Peggy in all of our lives.  She was not just our neighbor, she was our friend a long time before that.  Peggy was definitely unique in her many ways.  She was over the top in everything she did.  She didn’t just love you half way.  It was all or nothing.  We had so many great times over the years.  We also went through sad times too.  I was pregnant with Kelley when David died and after she was born Peggy came down to my house and “borrowed” Kelley for the day.  She took her back up to her house and rocked her for hours.  She was such a big help when my own mother died.  Peggy was one of the neighborhood mothers that all of the kids around here loved.  She saw all of my kids grow up and all of my grandchildren had the pleasure of knowing her too.  My four year old grandson Tison loved her and Bob so much.  He would always wave and yell at them whenever he saw them.  They were always so good about stopping the car if they were driving by or talk to him if they were in the yard.  He still loves to tell the story of the day that Mr. Bob got the motor home stuck in the front yard.  As you can imagine, Miss Peggy had a lot of things to say that day.  Dan and I went to Tunica last year with them.  She had an extra room over there and registered us as her son and daughter-in-law for the weekend so we could stay in the room next to theirs.  It was such a fun weekend.  There were many other times together over the years between trips such as that one or tailgating in Auburn.  Peggy was the best hostess you could ever imagine.  Paula Deen had nothing on her.  She would prepare a feast instead of a snack for playing cards.  I went up one day last winter to play cards with her and she had enough food to feed the whole neighborhood for just the two of us!  She leaves such a hole in so many lives that she has touched over the years.  I am so glad that we were able to call ourselves friends of hers and not just neighbors. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.  We love you all.

I’ve never met anyone quite like Peggy before.  Once you got to know Peggy, if you didn’t love her, you didn’t have a heart.  She was a spirited, wonderful lady, full wisdom and of the joy of life.  I can still see her smile and hear her laugh, even though I haven’t heard it in years. 
 
Every time I’ve been to my Mom’s over the years, when I’ve driven, I’ve always thought of stopping by to see Peggy and Bob, but I  was always leaving a day too late and in a rush to get there to take Mom to the doctor…it seems I haven’t just been able to go visit in years.  It’s a shame to get so busy with our own lives and lose touch with those you love so much.    

Peggy was old enough to be my mother, and had motherly advice (I think David and I were the same age).  She was a wise woman with a kind heart and was a good friend too.  When I worked with Peggy, I enjoyed visiting with her after work; we’d go somewhere after work and sit and talk for hours.  There wasn’t anyone I would have rather been with than Peggy.  I preferred her company to anyone near my own age.

Then, when I moved away to Massachusetts, I always looked forward to going to visit so I could see Peggy again.  Despite the age difference, she was one of the best friends I have ever had, and I’ve missed her very much and have thought about her often.  I had been thinking that later this month when I go to my Mom’s that I’d go a couple of days early so I could visit with Peggy.  I was hoping to introduce all of you to Steve too, who would have liked Peggy very much too.    

I remember our trip to Atlantic City when I was living in Massachusetts to visit with Peggy and Bob when one of your friends was in the Miss America Pageant.  Peggy and I had fun playing the nickel slot machines, as we didn’t want to lose too much money, and at one time we were $40 ahead, but kept playing and lost that.  We also enjoyed walking on the boardwalk and looking in all the shops at the sequined gowns, but the high heels Peggy and I were wearing hurt our feet.  

I remember being at your house the day after Christmas one year and getting a call telling me to get home because my grandmother was in the hospital and wasn’t expected to live.  Peggy was so encouraging, even though it was hurting her because it brought back memories of David’s accident.

I always felt at home when I visited you all.  It felt like I was part of the family.  I loved hearing Peggy’s stories, and she could always make me laugh.  Every time I visited, we stayed up late talking, waiting for you girls to get home, and then you guys joined in too, so we stayed up later.  Bob stayed up too, but usually retired to bed before we did.  Peggy loved you girls and Bob so much and was always so proud of you all, and she had many wonderful stories to tell about you.   

One of the last times I was there was at Christmas a few years after I had moved to South Carolina; I think I came in Christmas night.  Peggy wanted to go shopping the next day for Christmas wreaths and ornaments.  We all went several places, and Peggy found her green wreaths she wanted to decorate to go on the door.  We found some balls that the bulbs were supposed to go inside too.  Peggy and Bob wanted to get me a gift, anything I wanted, and I told Peggy they didn’t need to buy me anything.  Peggy insisted, and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings, so we picked out a marcasite egg and stand.    I liked the stone and it wasn’t too expensive, so I let her buy it for me, and that made her happy.  Afterward, we went to a restaurant under a garage parking lot and had dinner before we went back to your home.  I still have the egg and will always treasure it, since it was a gift from my wonderful friend. 
 
Bob, Vicky, and Jennifer, I love you all, and I have many fond memories of you.  I hope once the shock wears off, you’ll only look back to the many wonderful memories you have of your years with Peggy.  You all did a wonderful job in giving Peggy such a beautiful memorial.

Peggy was such a special person and made everyone around her feel special too.  We are so glad to have known her and had her in our lives.  When I think about Peggy I immediatley think of the Auburn tailgate and how she would lay out a feast complete with table clothes, dinner ware, matching glasses, color coordinated napkins, and drinks dressed with the proper garnish.  When everyone was stuffed and Bob carried it all back to the motorhome she would declare that it was the last time she would slave over the stove in the hot RV.  The next Saturday she would find a way to "top" what she had done the previous week.  We also spent many pre-game and after-game days inside the RV chatting.  She always said exactly what she thought and she meant what she said. And I always found myself inspired by her.  She was strong but very vulnerable at the same time.  And she wasn't afraid to show either side of herself. She will be missed but never forgotten and we are all better for having known her.  You will be in our prayers in the weeks and months to come. One of my fondest memories is how Peggy had her own Command Center and Headquarters where she called all the shots back when Vicky and I were in high school.  IT WAS THE BEDROOM.  You could always find Peggy somewhere in the Master Bedroom and she always had time to help you solve your problems and just about anything you needed was within reach including make-up, the telephone and the phone book if we needed to get answers to important questions.  In that Command Center we could laugh, cry, do our hair, talk about boys and Peggy would tell you like it was...no sugar coating.  David would periodically stick his head in and make fun of us to his delight.  Bob was always so patient and would help us resolve tough issues.  He was usually the deciding factor and we could move on to another important issue. When my parents divorced I spent so much time in the Command Center that I just moved in for about three months until Peggy talked me through everything and I realized things would be O.K.   We need more Peggy Limbaughs who have time to talk and discuss issues and who tell it like it is!  I think she should have run for office instead of helping so many others get elected.  No regrets, only fond memories of Peggy!  With Love, Kim Veazey Knight.

Hap and I are so saddened by the loss of Peggy.  She was a very special lady and we both loved her very much.  We have many memories, but what always comes to my mind is how Hap always teased her about her hair.  They had a special bond that went back many years.  She will be missed. Mr. Limbaugh, Vickie, and Jennifer - I have wonderful memories of your wife and mother.  There are many that run through my mind when we were all in school.  I remember friends piling on Mr. and Mrs. Limbaugh's bed with them to watch movies.  At times, there might be eight or so people.  Everyone was so excited to watch The Movie Channel because most of us did not have cable television at that time.  Another fond memory was one of our camping trips to Panama City Beach, FL with Mrs. Limbaugh and six girls in one car. We always stopped in Enterprise to visit your relatives. There were no radar detectors back then. Therefore, we all had to be on watch for police so she would not get a speeding ticket. Other memories I recall are "Lady Ann's", her very long black cigarette holder, her perfect hair and makeup, and her laughter.  I always loved to hear Mrs. Limbaugh laugh. I am thankful to have such wonderful memories of her and your family. I pray for you all that you will receive the strength and comfort from God during these difficult days ahead.

I think I'm in as much shock as everyone else over the sudden loss of Peggy. The fact that I won’t get to hear her laugh, tease Bob or say goodbye is about a cruel a thing as can happen. Having Peggy around was like having a candle in a dark room. I’m going to miss her so much. It’s hard to pick a favorite Peggy story but this is the one that sticks out most often in my memory.  Ashlee’s rafting story is one of my favorites also and this story is from possibly the same trip. We were all in Pigeon Forge for a dance convention and at some point during the week, on an off day, someone thought it would be a good idea to go to Dollywood. It wasn’t. The trip consisted of Bob, Peggy, my parent s and me. To say I hated Dollywood would do a disservice to true hate. I was bored beyond tears I honestly don’t think I’ve ever wanted to leave a place so badly before or since. Bob asked me what I wanted to ride next, of the ride and a half that stupid Dollywood offered, and I said the car home. I think Peggy may have felt a little bad for me so she spent the rest of the day trying to make me laugh….and she succeeded. It was sometime afternoon and we were all kind of hungry so we got a few chicken finger baskets from some shacky looking restaurant that was supposed to provide atmosphere but had the same crappy food that you find in every amusement park. We ate our chicken fingers and when we were done, Peggy grabbed our trash and said, “Blake, come with me”. She told me she didn’t like that food and said she was going to let somebody know it. The first employee she came to must have been a hundred but she lit into her just as should would if she’d been a teenager. She said, “I just want to let you know that was the worst food I’ve ever put in my mouth.”, laughed a little and turned away. When we walked off she said that she probably shouldn’t have said that to someone that old but somebody needed to know how bad that food was and started laughing again. That got me laughing and pretty much turned my day around. Soon after, Peggy and my mom had to go to the ladies room and the nearest one had a line stretched around the building. My mom got in line but Peggy smiled at me and said, “Watch this”. She just started walking up the line, saying, “’scuse me” to every woman she cut in front of and batting her eyes. I heard half the line grumbling about it but no one said a word to Peggy. She walked right into the ladies room without ever stopping.  I was in awe and those 2 events made my hate for Dollywood disappear. Some other great stories with Peggy include the Dixie Stampede roll incident and Peggy and Comet interrogating the 2 lovers on the beach in Panama City. Peggy was one of a kind and a huge part of my life. She will be sorely missed. Both Court & my hearts go out to the entire family.

Some of you have asked if Peggy's death was expected or a shock so here's the story.  Some will know the characters in the story and some will not but here goes...

Peggy's health has been like a roller coaster for at least 10 years.  She had a heart attack and open heart surgery as well as other problems.  She would always overcome every crisis and bounce back!  About 2 years ago, she started bleeding from the rectum.  She was in the hospital for two weeks undergoing all sorts of tests.  They never could find out where the bleeding was coming from.  She said a nurse prayed for her and God gave her a miracle... the bleeding just stopped with no explanation.  Even though she has been going about life and functioning, Bob said she never did completely return to normal after that incident.  She had problems breathing and used oxygen sometimes and she would experience weakness and get tired easily.  We never thought she was close to death at all though.  She was Peggy!

Thursday morning she got up and was sick at her stomach.  By 4:00 P.M. she began the bleeding again (like she did 2 years earlier).  Bob took her to the hospital at 6:00 and they began running tests, etc.  No one thought she was critical at that point.  Jennifer went to a teacher workshop on Friday and Vicky headed to Mobile to support Jacob in a baseball playoff.  Jennifer went to the hospital to be with Bob after school.  I talked to them some time after that.  Bob said she was really sick!  Jennifer said that once they began giving her blood, she went downhill.  I guess the blood was leaking inside and it went to her lungs.  (They had to give her blood because she had lost so much.)  It was such a shock to everybody!  Peggy is suppose to overcome every problem!  On Friday morning she had told Bob that she would die that day, and she died at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, July 23.  She has always been psychic so I am sure "she knew".

I had been thinking of Peggy so much and I called her last Saturday and invited them to go out to dinner with us.  We had a great time as usual with lots of laughs.  We all knew Peggy was not feeling well and she blamed it on having two teeth pulled that Monday.  When we got in the car after dinner, she fell asleep and slept most of the way home.  Bob said she had been sleeping in the car a lot.  I guess the signs were there but everyone just thought she was in a "down mode" and the "up mode" would be just around the corner.  That has been the way her health has been for a long time... like a roller coaster that goes up and down.  We were just waiting for the next "up".

Her funeral was one of the sweetest I have ever attended.  Vicky and Jennifer made sure the flowers were "over the top" as Peggy believed so strongly that more was always better and then you added a little "more" after that!  The girls asked me what I thought about her makeup, hair, programs, etc.  I said it is all perfect!  I said "girls, there is nothing your Mama can do about it even if she does not approve".  Jennifer said "yes, she can be waiting on us at heaven's gate to "cuss us out". (haha)  Vicky even thought the blanket for the casket should probably have twinkling lights and I had to agree that Peggy would have loved lights!  She would also have appreciated a feather boa entwined among the roses.  Saner minds vetoed the lights and boa idea, thankfully.  Two of her grandchildren (Annie and Jackson) played the piano as a tribute.  Jacob, the oldest grandchild read a poem he had written.  Jimmy (Vicky's husband who is really funny) told wonderful funny stories about Peggy.  Vicky gave the most moving tribute to her Mother. 
Peggy would have been so proud of her!  Our friend, Preston Headrick (a minister and JJ's husband)spoke. Bob's brother-in-law, Ray Robbins told favorite stories. Peggy's cousin, John Limbaugh, was one of the ministers who spoke and the Methodist Church minister, Ralph Barrow, spoke.  It was one hour long and perfect... she would have loved it and I don't think she will be at heaven's gates to complain.  They wanted me and Marvin to walk and be seated with the family and we were honored.  Blake was a pall bearer (the only one not related to her).  He was glad to be a part of it also.

We loved her and will miss her very much.  She gave us all a lifetime of memories and funny stories.  She also left some mighty "big shoes" that no one will ever be able to fill.  Please keep the family in your prayers  because they are all going to have a hard time without "Big Mama" bossing them!  Bob has spent so many years taking care of Peggy that he will have to make a big adjustment.  We will have to make every effort to be there for him.

I hope heaven has a kitchen so Peggy can try out all of Paula Deen's recipes and double the amount of butter Paula suggests.  She could also use a few different slot machines and a television or radio to follow Auburn football. (On a side note,  someone mentioned at the funeral how she hated Alabama.  Boy, that was true... Jennifer, remember the sweatshirts we asked you to get for us?  They were outrageously inappropriate but we proudly wore them to the Auburn - Alabama game that year!)  She will need to have someone to discuss and fight with over politics.  She was a yellow dog democrat and voted against a democrat for the first time (no Obama for her).  She had told the grandkids to put their picture in the casket with her when she died.  I thought my heart would break when I saw all the pictures surrounding her.  She would always want them close as they were so loved by her.

Bob said her last words to him were "I love you".  When he told me this, he and I were just sobbing.  All of a sudden I said, "Bob, I have never heard her say that before".  Then we just cracked up laughing.  That is how I want to remember Peggy ... laughing her unique laugh!

Vicky, Jennifer, and Mr. Limbaugh,
I know this is a difficult time for you all but I know it has warmed your heart to know that Peggy was loved by so many people.  She was one a kind and there will never be another one like her.  I have so many memories of Peggy - here are a couple of them.  I will always remember Vicky, Cindy, and I laying on their bed and watching Peggy  put on her make up for hours and us as girls just staring in amazement.  All the advice she gave us!!!  Another memory is the year ya'll got the new black car and we all went to Florida.  You had just got the car the day ya'll came to Florida.  A tornado came through and knocked the Barney Gray sign fell on top of your NEW car!! Oh the words that Peggy said - can you just imagine!!!  The last memory I will share is when Saturday Night Fever came out - it was rated R back then - I think Vicky and I were about 13.  Peggy drove us the movie to see  Saturday Night Fever but they would not let us in because it was rated R.  We did not get to see it - but then Grease came out and she would not let Vicky see it because it was to vulgar - LOL!!!!
I spent alot of my childhood and high school days with your family.  Everytime I would see her she would always stop and talk for a while.  I know she was proud of you girls.  I loved her and she will be greatly missed.  I hope each one on you know that I am here if you should need anything.

She had that contagious, infectious laugh that I will never forget...she kinda shook all over when she laughed.  The event that I will never forget and always cherish is the day after Dylan was born (10 days early) and she brought the baby shower that would have been the following week, to the hospital lobby. We had the shower right there and it was done in her own wonderful way. One more testament to the fact she would never be stopped when she had her mind set. Love you Aunt Peggy and we miss you!

Again let me say how sorry I am about your sudden loss of Mrs. Peggy. As we were with losing Johnny, and still are sometimes, I know you are in shock. The pain will fade and you will be left with the sweet, funny memories of your mom and wife. My most favorite memory of your mom is when we all took a trip to Biloxi when she and Mr. Bob were living in Mississippi. Wow, what a great time that was..walking around the casino at 5am in the morning with your mom still going strong...I remember me and Vicky walking behind your mom with empty buckets and her stopping to put a dollar coin in the slots, pulling the handle and walking off...coins came pouring out and she just told us to fill our buckets..I believe it was about $60 worth...
Mrs. Peggy was such a strong presence and I loved the way she always said what was on her mind...I have great memories of taking care of her after her heart attack and helping with the house remodeling...there was never any doubt how much she loved all of you and cherished her grandchildren. I love you guys and will keep you in my prayers! Please let me know if I can do anything for you.

Bob,Vicki, and Jennifer this one's for you. I don't even know how to put into words what Peggy meant to me, we had several surrogate mothers in the neighborhood and Peggy was on up the list as one of my favorite "moms". I remember so many things about her and could tell so many stories from her life and the impact she had on mine but I'll tell my favorite one...the whitewater rafting story. Peggy joined us on a rafting trip while we were in Pigeon Forge for one of our many dance competitions and decided she wanted to go rafting with us. We went down so many rapids and most of us had been soaked and thrown from the boat except one...yes you guessed it...Peggy sat at the end of our journey with perfect hair, perfect make-up, completely bone dry. She stood up out of the boat and looked around at all of us wondering why we were so tired, then we all noticed her and why we felt we were doing the work for an extra person as Peggy had a mark that was left from the paddle across her legs where she had never even picked up the paddle since she was too busy making sure her Marlboro 100's had survived the journey. I will remember that story for as long as I live and everytime I have rafted since hasn't felt the same without doing all of the work for an extra person. At her viewing the other night Vicki said I had pretty much summed it up as she and I were talking about how if Peggy would have been there she would have definitely been telling all of us everything we could've done better because that's who she was so I told Vicki that it was God's turn to be bossed around by Peggy Limbaugh because she will definitely try to run the show in Heaven with her precious David by her side. I will miss you so very much Peggy and I will always love you, nothing will ever be the same now that you're not here.

I worked with Peggy for 6 wks in Syla at attorneys Bell & Bell in 1981. Peggy and I shared an office just the 2 of us. She was a HOOT!!! Always full of surprises. One of the biggest ones was when the girls in the office decided to go out one night...roller skating in Talladega! Peggy was the best skater and the oldest one of us there. 
I remember a few years ago at dance recital dress rehearsal, my camera would not work and she reached in her purse and pulled out a disposable one and insisted I have it. A giver, a friend. She will be missed!

My greatest memory of aunt Peggy is,that mother was in the hospital in dothan and hear she came in hospital room carring her big purse ,she looked beatiful everything was in place like always.She set her purse down an pulled out apill of paper towles that she held in two hands an said Edith i just had to stop at the casino an playered for u a quater for u an look what u won it was betwen 250.00-an 300.00 dollars all in quarters that was wrapted in those paper towels. Mother said,OH Peggy u shouldn't done that she said but i won this for u .And another memory of her is you always wear your makeup an dress just soso.an she new i didn't like to dress up.She said that it wouldn't hurt for a little while. She will surly be missed!!!She also everytime she can down here she brought mother anything she thought she would eat. Weall love you aunt Peggy,and also vick jen an bob
