Rebecca “Becky” Ann Powell, age 71 , of Childersburg, AL, died peacefully September 25th at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center of Birmingham, with her husband by her side. Born in Knox County, Tennessee, Becky was the daughter of the late Ben and Eleanor Burnette. Becky was a dedicated wife and mother. She was always available to show her love and support at many, many ballgames, dance recitals, fundraisers, graduations, and performances. She found joy in her flower gardens, Tennessee Football, local politics, singing, and listening to music. She was a beloved friend to many. Becky was a proud alumnus of the University of Tennessee and enjoyed a rewarding career as a Director with the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Along with being a caring wife and mother, Becky was always surrounded by her loving pets. Throughout her life Becky was actively involved in the Garden Club, Kiwanis Club, Church Choir, local politics, and collected antiques. Survivors include her husband of 12 years James Montgomery “Monty” Powell, her children, William ”Jamie” B. Copeland (Mary), of Childersburg, AL, Kari A. Copeland (Eric Flurry) of Victor, ID; her brothers, Ben Burnette (Martha) of Knoxville, TN and Mike Burnette (Susanne) of Knoxville, TN; sisters-in-law, Judy Burnett and Patsy Mitchell and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben A. Burnette and Elanor Burnette, her brother Danny Burnette (Judy) and her beloved dog, Mikey.
Becky will live in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. from Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with burial to follow in Childersburg Cemetery.
