and 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his son Dean, two sisters Irene and Gertrude and three
brothers, Norman, Elmer and Donald.
Allen was born in Provost Alberta September 24, 1926 and raised by his parents in the
area of Peers, Alberta. He joined the Canadian Army (Active) at the age of eighteen.
When WWII ended he then signed up for the Pacific and was posted to Blue Grass
Kentucky for further training. That war ended before he had a chance to go. He was
then discharged on December 12, 1944, in Calgary.
Allen enrolled at Hollingshead Business College in Calgary where he met his future wife
Joyce Newbury. They were married September 7, 1946 and would have celebrated their
73rd anniversary this year.
Allen started the Calgary Professional Club which became very successful. The family
moved to the coast in 1960 and they lived in West Vancouver and North Vancouver for
thirty years.
He was a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade for many years. After moving to
Chilliwack he became a Rotarian. He started the first Probus Club in Chilliwack.
His greatest pleasures in his professional life was helping people plan their investments
and retirement. He contributed to many other organizations over the years. Allen and
Joyce especially enjoyed their many motorhome trips. He also enjoyed gardening.
A service of celebration will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Ave.,
Chilliwack, BC on Saturday, July 27th at 1:00pm.
