

Brian was born in Victoria, B.C. and spent significant time in Pateros, Washington growing up around apple orchards. There he was actively involved in school life by joining the debate and chess clubs and playing basketball and football.
Brian married Carol June Moore on September 1, 1965. They enjoyed 58 years of loving marriage and had two children, John Downey and Danielle Wicker.
Brian attended college at the University of British Columbia where he earned his Bachelor of Education.
Brian was a successful and caring school teacher and principal for many years but also started several business in the education, training, and counselling fields. He volunteered on park & recreation boards and started two track & field clubs. He is best known for his years of coaching basketball in multiple schools across the Fraser Valley including three local Chilliwack secondary schools late in his retirement. Across his lifetime Brian continuously provided opportunities for young people and the community.
Brian was an avid adventurer who loved taking road trips and exploring new places. He enjoyed gardening, nature viewing, birding, and gold planning. He travelled extensively in North America and around the world with wife, Carol, over their many years together.
Brian is survived by his wife, Carol, his two children, John (Kate) and Danielle (Sean), and his two grandchildren, Cole and Tessa Wicker.
Brian Downey was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and community member. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
