Dean Barkley McTavish

Dean Barkley McTavish of Chilliwack BC, passed suddenly at the age of 78 at White Rock BC on Oct. 10 2015. He leaves behind his best friend and "bride" of 27 years, Evelyn McTavish, his Brother, Don of Candiac QC, (Margaret) son Donny (Melanie ) of Victoria, daughter Nicole (Bil) of Victoria, & Jim (Lesley) of Calgary, Wade (Mary-Ellen) of Winnipeg, Sue (Tom) of Ft. Langley, Corenia (Wayne) of White Rock, close friend, Al Wheeler (Chilliwack) & brother in law Earl of Anchorage and his many snowbird friends in Yuma

Dean was born on June 13, 1937 in Kirkland Lake, Ontario to Aberdeen William and Anais McTavish (nee Barkley). He attended Ryerson Polytechnic. His lifelong passion was crafting and building beautiful things with fibreglass. Many knew him as "Mr. Plastic" and sought his expertise.

Nothing gave Dean greater delight than family gatherings - the bigger the better. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren, (Ken, Jayson, Wade, Sheena, Dan, Sarah, David, Mikaela, Philip, Sarah, Stacey, Sean, Eric, Nora, Hope, Tyler & Kaitlyn) and 10 great grandchildren - Joe, Tristin, Carter, Kinsley, Alexander, Payton, Maja, Westin, Hudson, and Aria

Dean was a raconteur, a great storyteller who often included a lesson for his children. The yarns about the business his adventures in Alaska were legendary and always entertaining. Mostly, though, he was our big hearted Poppy.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, Oct. 17th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Homes with a reception to follow.
