Derek was the oldest son of four children. He was always happy and optimistic. Derek loved to work, he had worked in construction in Abbotsford and was very proud of this. Derek had also taken a culinary program and wanted to be a Chef on a boat. Derek loved the outdoors. He spent a lot of time in the bush with his Uncles Stephen and Albert camping and working as well. The love of Derek’s life was his son, Neil whom he was very proud of. He tried to be an excellent role model to his younger siblings by living a healthy lifestyle. Derek also tried to encourage others to do the same, including his brothers. He was especially proud of his youngest sibling, his sister Keah, and always asked about her and sent his love for her. Derek had a very loving nature and would always tell his family, aunts and uncles he loved them. Derek also had a very kind nature, and had a lot of close friends because of this. Derek will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family has chosen to have Derek cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kinghaven Treatment Center in Abbotsford BC, a place that was dear to Derek.
