March 6, 1945 - March 8, 2023
Donna, age 78, passed away at her home in Chilliwack with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born to parents Don and Leila (née Snelgrove) on March 6, 1945 and raised in Southern Ontario with her three siblings.
Shortly after she began working at Sarnia General Hospital, Donna met Don Kingdon. They married in 1966 and were lifelong companions with six children. They moved to Castlegar in 1979 before eventually moving to Port McNeill on north Vancouver Island in 1989. Donna worked as an x-ray technician at Port McNeill Hospital for 25 years. She retired from x-ray after a 50 year career and moved to Chilliwack.
From a young age, Donna was dedicated to her faith as a Christian and was an active member of the Anglican Church. She devoted her life to selflessly helping others. Whether it be family, friends, neighbours or those in need, she was always there to lend a hand. She took pride in volunteering in her community in various ways including working with refugee families and hosting many exchange students from around the world.
Donna was an avid reader and never left the house without a book. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was always trying new recipes. Other hobbies included swimming every day to stay healthy and knitting blankets and scarves for family and friends. She also loved new adventures and planned many celebrations and trips with her family.
She was the beloved wife of Don; a devoted mother to her children Donnie (Melissa), Rebecca, Steven (Jennie), Joe (Amy), Aynalem and Sentayehu; cherished grandmother to Jared, Jonah, Jesse, Isabella, Mattias, Felix, Christian, Bruno and Liliana; and loving sister to JoAnn (Dick), Bob, and Jane (Chris). She was predeceased by her husband Don, parents Leila and Don and her sister-in-law Heather. Donna will be remembered by many nieces and nephews and will be missed by her beloved dog, Maizy.
Donna always advocated that anything is possible. She was resourceful and insightful and lived life fearlessly. Her courage, strength, determination and abundance of love will forever be remembered and embraced.
A memorial service will be held in memory of Donna at St Thomas Anglican Church in Chilliwack on Sunday April 16th at 2pm. Live stream and recorded service will be available at stthomaschilliwack.com.
