Dorothy was schooled in Queenston School, Robert H. Smith School and Kelvin High School and then United Collegiate for Grade 12. She met Neville Walker at United College and they were married in Winnipeg on May 31, 1948. They had three children, Judith, Catherine and John and lived in the Silver Heights area of Winnipeg for 6 years and then moved to Transcona for 49 years. She lived in Chilliwack, BC for the last eleven years of her life. Dorothy worked outside the home for over 19 years and was a member of Al-Anon for 39 years where she enjoyed the fellowship, philosophy and help.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Norma (7 years old), her Mom and Dad, her daughter Cathy in 2006 and her husband Nev in 2007. Nev had 40 years of sobriety in AA and they were married for 58 years.
Left to mourn her passing are children Judy in Winnipeg and John (wife Cheryl) in Chilliwack, BC, 6 grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, her sister Jackie Catto in Aurora, ON, her nieces, nephews and cousins and brother-in-law Gordon Walker (wife Jackie) in Calgary, AB and her neighbor buddy of 46 years, Shirley Wood who died in Winnipeg in 2013.
Dorothy moved to Chilliwack, BC in 2008 to be near her son and daughter-in-law John and Cheryl where she made friends in the Yarrow MB Church and belonged to the Dorcas Ruth Quilting Group. She left her best neighbor Dorothy Stewart and son John and Wife Cheryl in 2015 to move to the Auburn Retirement Residence on Young Road in Chilliwack and she loved it.
Dorothy will be cremated and interred in Winnipeg and her wishes were that there would be no formal service. If you wish, Dorothy would have loved for you to donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Schizophrenia Society of Manitoba in her memory.
Special thank you to the staff at Bradley Centre for their love and care for Mom during these last few months.
