Dylan Kevin Alexander Putz (aka Big Dyl, Jorge, Sparky) passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 25, 2022 after an 18 month journey with cancer. We were blessed to have him for 19 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents Brian & Carmen Putz, younger brother Ethan Putz, grandparents Adolph & Sylvia Putz and Elmer Froese, 4 uncles, 9 cousins, girlfriend and many, many other dear friends.
Born in Chilliwack, BC on December 27, 2002, he went to preschool, elementary, middle and high school all in Chilliwack within biking distance from his home. Biking was a passion of his and the Fairfield island community would often witness the ‘biker gang’ in action. He went on to graduate a year early with 3 scholarships to pursue one of his other passions as an electrical apprentice. When he was diagnosed with cancer in September 2020 that was put on hold briefly but he soon found a way to continue working while having treatment. Nothing was going to stop him from doing what he loved. His positive attitude and hard-working ethic impressed all he worked for and with. Starting with mowing lawns, then fixing and selling bikes at Pedal Sport, and finally as an electrical apprentice with Octane Electric.
Dylan always made the most of every moment. From mountain biking, 4x4 trips to the river and up the mountain, bush camping, working on his (and friends) vehicles, youth group and church activities, playing various musical instruments and missions trips to Mexico building and wiring houses. Always positive and smiling right to his last breath with his signature thumbs up.
He made a huge impact on all who knew him and it showed in the outpouring of love and support for him throughout his whole cancer journey. You finished well Dylan. “Welcome home good and faithful servant”.
Words cannot express our thanks to the amazing oncology team at BC Children’s Hospital, and the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice and Cascade Hospice. Without the loving care of these special angels we would not have made it through the last 18 months.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (bcchf.ca) or One Life One Chance Ministries (onelifeonechance.ca).
