Eva Couling

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eve Couling on Thursday Feb. 23, 2017 at the age of 101. A mother, a grandmother, great grandmother...our beloved GG. One classy lady. She was surrounded by her loving family as she went to be with her husband Herb, who predeceased her in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Larry) Simpson; granddaughter, Michelle (Rob); grandson, Trevor (Candy) and great grandchildren, Lauren, Meghan, Davis and Tyler. She and her twin sister were born in Hosmer, B.C. on October 14, 1915 to Stella and Frank Labelle. She was from a family of 11 siblings. She being one of the younger ones. Not long after the family moved to Creston, BC where she grew up and met her future husband, Herb Couling. She was very athletic and she and her sisters played in the Provincial Women's Basketball Finals in 1937. She also played the piano by ear. Just give her a song and she could play it. She lived in various towns and cities in B.C. as her husbands B.C. Forest Service career progressed. In 1955, the family moved to Nelson, B.C. There she worked as a dental receptionist. At this time, she also took up golf and could be found on the course at 5:00 am to play a round of golf before she went to work. She became very proficient at the game . The family built a cabin at Christina Lake in the early 70's. There she got to spend many enjoyable summers. She was known as "the Queen of the Lake" because she was dressed "to the nines" and her makeup was done impeccably. all the little girls at the cabin wanted to dress up in grandma Eve's gowns and jewelry. She touched everyone's lives with a special love. We will all be eternally grateful for having her in our lives for so long. Her love , laughter, sociability will live in our hearts forever.

In 2006, her daughter moved her to Chilliwack to live at Hampton House. She had 10 great years there, making friends and enjoying the activities. She especially enjoyed the Horse Races (her favourite number was 4). She could be heard in the lounge yelling..."come on 4". She enjoyed the outings, especially to Harrison Hot Springs.

Many thanks to Trevor MacDonald and the staff at Hampton House for looking after her and making her 10 years there most pleasant. After some health issues, she moved to Valley Haven Care Home in December 2015.

Many thanks also to Dr. Julia Bright for her care over the last 11 years, and to the staff at Valley Haven for the care they gave Eve in the last year of her life and for making her life there most pleasant.
