After years of good health and a wonderful life, Fred Mammel passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, on September 29, 2025. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his cherished wife of 74 years, Agnes; daughters, Gail (Colin) Fleenor and Sandra (Phil) Houston; grandchildren, Lindsay (Nigel) Lucas, Brett Mammel and Taylor (Taka) Mammel; great-grandsons, Kamuy and Ilum; sister-in-law Dorleen (Ken) Krause; brother-in-law Clarence (Mary) Bodener, and many nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by his son, Jeff Mammel, and all his brothers and sisters: Lena, Arthur, Bertha, Louise, Albert, Anna, Emma and David.
Fred was born in Silver Heights, Alberta, on December 3, 1928 and moved with his family to Sardis in 1945. He was the first child born in Canada to his parents, Friedrich and Anna, who had immigrated in 1927 from a German community in Romania.
Fred met Agnes at a family wedding, and it was love at first sight-as he told his friends immediately that she was going to be his girl, and they should stay away! They married in 1951 and eventually purchased the family farm on Carter Road, where they later built their dream home. They had many happy years there, raising their three children. After Fred retired, they moved to their home on Mount Shannon, with a beautiful view of their beloved Fraser Valley.
Fred established a Falling contractor company with Joe Van den Brink. They worked all over British Columbia, but mainly in the Harrison area. They were well known as honest, and hard workers- and Fred was proud to say that during their long partnership, he and Joe never had a disagreement.
Fred adored his wife, Agnes, and they did everything together. They especially enjoyed gardening, and their house was known for its beautiful landscaping and flowers. They had many adventures in their motor home, and looked forward to their yearly trips to the Marriott Palm Desert. They enjoyed many cruises and tours, with two highlights being visiting the Holy Land and St. Petersburg, Russia.
He was a wonderful and kind Father and Grandfather, always there to provide his love and support.
The family would like to especially thank his neighbours, Doug and Carolyn, for their support over the last few years. Also thank you to all the caregivers at Modern Day Home Health.
