Gerrit Henry de Wit, at the age of 92, peacefully went to be with his Father in Heaven on February 15th, 2021.

Gerrit was the loving husband of Wilma de Wit (nee de Jong) and proud father of Barb Taekema (Jack), Kelowna, Carol de Wit, Calgary, Gordon de Wit (Hetty), Abbotsford, and Rita Moizis (Roman), Edmonton. He was survived by 9 beautiful grandchildren: Jordan, Lindsay (Steve), Brittany (Andrew), Kari (Chad), Laura (Eric), Brandon, Alyssa, Amanda and Aaron. He was also blessed with 7 great grandchildren. Gerrit was survived by two sisters: Wilhelmina Schmale (late Gerrit), Lethbridge, and Aleda Emmelkamp (late Herman), Fort Macleod and predeceased by his sister Reta Cote (late Ken), Vernon.

Gerrit was born on September 26, 1928 to Gerardus and Cornelius de Wit in Fort Macleod, Alberta. After marrying Wilma and starting his family, he farmed for many years in southern Alberta. Gerrit’s passion for farming led him to move the entire family to New Zealand, Oregon and Falkland, BC. Although Gerrit actively retired from farming in 1992, at the age of 64, it was never far from his heart as he continued to be involved in his original farm in Alberta until 2019. Gerrit had a great love for the Lord and was active in church activities that served and glorified God. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Gerrit prided himself in gathering his family together to hike, golf and play games. His grandchildren will fondly remember playing board and card games with their Grandpa who was renowned for his love of games and winning. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Due to COVID restrictions there will be a small private service on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 1:00 pm in Chilliwack, British Columbia.

Wilma, we send our condolences with the going home of Gerrit. May the Lord comfort and sustain you in these difficult circumstances. We have many good memories of discussions we had with him as far back when you lived in Duncan.
