With heavy hearts we share the news on the passing of William (Billy) Russell, our loving father, husband and grandfather, after he lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 21. He was surrounded by his family as he quietly went to sleep for the last time. We can take comfort in that he is no longer in pain and is at peace now.
He was born in Montreal, QC and from the day he was born he was a character all on his own. Making friends and memories everywhere he went, his generous nature preceded him. He would give the shirt off his back and often literally did. He leaves behind his loving wife Regina, beloved son Danny (Bonnie), precious grandson Sean (Beka), sister Colleen (Moe), sister-in laws Eileen (d. Eddie), Helen (Norris), brother-in-laws Stanley (d. Theresa), Henry (Elaine), and Toni (d. Olga) and many nieces and nephews. Cherished friends, Andre and Lynn (and family), Kurt and Heather, and many friends in Laval West, QC. He also leaves behind his favourite four-legged friend, Jake.
He loved taking his nature walks, talking to neighbours, fishing, woodworking, and volunteering his time in Yarrow where he spent numerous hours helping with Yarrow Days together with Regina. He was a proud Mason for many years and made lasting relationships there. He enjoyed watching boxing and in his youth himself fought in over 200 amateur matches. He was also an avid curler and broomball player.
Sincere thanks to Chilliwack General Hospital for their care and compassion. No service by his request.
