Hermann Bloch

September 9, 1914 - December 26, 2016

In the early morning of December 26th at Chilliwack General Hospital, Hermann left peacefully to be with his Lord Jesus Christ and with his bride Minnie, who predeceased him in 2001, on what would have been their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. Also predeceasing him were daughter Joanne Olsen in 1969, five sisters, four brothers and many dear friends. Herman was born in Beausejour, Manitoba and in 1947 came to BC in a pick-up truck with

Minnie, their first-born, a sewing machine and a few dollars. Hermann always had a new and usually amusing story to tell about his early years in rural

Manitoba, or about various construction projects that he worked on in BC which included custom houses, the Vedder Bridge and the Bloch family-run Fraserway Drive-In Restaurant in Abbotsford during the 1960’s. After retiring he generously gave his time to family, friends and church working on building and other woodwork projects. He also became known for the beautiful wooden bowls he made on his lathe, and the homemade chocolate that he shared

generously with everyone from his dinner hosts to his pharmacists. God granted Hermann his wish to live independently in his own home and he remained

active and involved with his family, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and his wide community of friends and neighbours.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter Diana Kilgour; son Gordon (Myrna) Bloch; granddaughters Melanie Kilgour, Amber (Wayne) Yamauchi, and Carly Bloch; great grandchildren Reace Rakoczy (Candace), Brianna Bloch (Brandon Vatne), Jordan and Brooklyn Krause, and four great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Nora Froelich and Tillie Laba, both of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews.

Hermann’s positive attitude, generosity, and many acts of kindness are an inspiration.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date, when the weather is more agreeable.
