John Verdonk

John passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 29, 2025, at the age of 87. Dad was born in Holland in 1937. In 1957 John went to Ireland to work for a company that grew vegetables. He met and fell in love with Rosaleen Fanning in Castlebellingham, Ireland. They dated for 2 years, got married on February 3, 1959, and soon after they returned to Holland to do his military training. Later that same year they immigrated to Canada. They lived in North Bend, Prince George and Oliver before settling in Rosedale, BC where they dairy farmed for many years. After selling the farm John retired briefly before he went to work at Cannor Nurseries, where he enjoyed running equipment and working in the fields.

John passionately enjoyed gardening and growing vegetables of all kinds. He was an avid reader and loved to be out in nature hiking and cycling. He loved to travel and enjoyed several trips to Europe, California, and Vancouver Island.

John is now reunited with the love of his life, Rosaleen, his wife of 54 years who he missed deeply. He is predeceased by his son Andrew Verdonk (2019). He is survived by his sister Adrie Van't Westeinde, son John Verdonk and his daughter Karina Verdonk (Jennifer), as well as four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Great-granddaughter Harlow brought John much joy and his face lit up when she came for visits.

John's family would like to thank all the staff at the Bradley Centre for the exceptional care they provided. There will be a small family gathering at a later date.
