Margaret Mary Bernt

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Mary Bernt (née Sorensen), who passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, in Agassiz, BC, at the age of 81.

Margaret was born on October 21, 1943, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. A life well-traveled and well-lived, she embraced every new chapter with warmth, grace, and a spirit of adventure.

Before being diagnosed with MS, Margaret was an avid golfer, an enthusiastic bridge player, and a proud community member who gave her time and energy generously. She loved to travel and, with her husband’s career in the military, she lived in many parts of Canada, the United States, and Europe, building lasting friendships along the way.

Margaret also dedicated much of her professional life to the Government of Canada, where she held various roles and made meaningful contributions.

She is survived by her loving husband James Bernt; her children Jamie Bernt (daughters; Jessica, Nicole, and Mackenzie), Heather Thomson (Derek and daughter Cassidi), and Mayson Bernt (daughter of her late son George); and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Margaret will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, quiet strength, and deep devotion to her family.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
