Mom was so many things to all of us, but most of all she taught us love, gave us strength, showed us how to have a kind heart and she gave her best to everyone around her.
The people in mom’s life brought her so much happiness. Her many dear friends, neighbours and extended family had the good fortune to benefit from her generosity, adventurous spirit, an amazing ability to listen and support, and of course, enjoy her delicious meals and baking.
Mom’s grandchildren Ryan (Claire), Sara (Adam), Derek, Aryn (Randy) and Cody and great grandchildren (Levi and Blakely) were her pride and joy. Her face lit up the room in their presence.
Volunteering was important to mom, and right until she had no more words left to speak, her passion for making sure children knew the love of books was evident. For 30 years mom dedicated countless hours at the Rotary book sort where she was in charge of children’s books. Her legacy will be honored by the Rotary with a free library in the community and “Cecile’s Corner” in the children’s area at the 2 annual Rotary book sales.
We were so blessed to help mom spend the last month of her life “holding court” as the ultimate host of the celebration that she wished for. Thank you to all who were able to visit, call, send messages or emails. Her room was filled with flowers, laughs, stories, special treats and memories, and she loved it all.
No additional celebration or service will be held, at her request. The bench at Sardis Park, initially in memory of dad, will be re-dedicated to mom and dad, together again. For those who are able, stop by to say hi, or stay awhile and have a visit.
Mom was so appreciative of the sense of peace that being cared for in Hospice brought her. Should you wish to do something in her honor, please consider donating to the Chilliwack Hospice Society, or another hospice of your choice.
