Mary Jean McLaren Kosola passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at Valleyhaven Care Home at the age of 94. Mary was born on March 9, 1932, in Port Arthur, Ontario.
In 1966, Mary moved with her family from Nolalu, Ontario, to Chilliwack, British Columbia, where she made her home for the next 60 years. She built a life centered around family, friendship, and community.
Mary’s strong work ethic began early while helping in her family’s general store in Hymers, Ontario. She continued a career in retail throughout much of her life and eventually retired from Boots Drug Store in Chilliwack. In addition to her work, Mary faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher at the United Church.
Mary especially enjoyed spending time with friends over coffee, travelling after retirement, playing cards, and singing. Her caring heart and joyful spirit will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: sons Daryl Kosola (Linda) and Lyle Kosola (Wendy), and daughters Joy Painter and Marianne Holley (Mark). She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many friends, and all who were touched by her warm and welcoming spirit.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Kosola, and her daughter, Debbie Kosola.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Markey and the staff at Valleyhaven for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm in the Sleese Room at Evergreen Hall.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
