I met Maryvonne at the YWCA in 2012. She was teaching a course tbere. Maryvonne was  warm, friendly, encouraging and a great teacher. She cared about her students and making a difference in their lives. I felt very sad when I learned she passed away.  Maryvonne was such a lovely woman and will be missed.

As the anniversary of your death approaches, I just want to express that barely a day goes by without my missing you.  And feeling grief at your early death.

Yet, I am also inspired to be the best I can be, by your example of, how you shared the best you could be.  And, how often you guided me to do the same.  
Mahalo for that precious, generous gift.

I continue to give back to our relations,  as you encouraged me all those times before... and now from the realm of spirit.

Maryvonne was a sweet hearted, joy-filled spirit. I met her back in Richmond in the early 70's, & kept in touch until moving away from Vancouver.

Maryvonne brightened my English classroom whenever she walked into it. It was my privilege to teach her in grade 11 and 12.(1972-74)  She was a life force, so quick, bright and certainly a lover of English.  But so much more.  Having seen my slides of Haida Gwaii where I spent a summer living on a beach, she and her friend Marty, took off for the remote areas I had visited and had a wonderful adventure.  I remember how she glowed with a sense of accomplishment when she came to tell me what she had done.  It is this eagerness to savor life in all its dimensions that marked her out among her peers. I was very happy to meet her again a few years ago, still glowing,  and am sorry not to have had more contact.  Angela Waber

Maryvonne was a delight to work with at the Work BC Southside location. We shared many stories and laughs. Her patience and kindness when working with the clients was remarkable. The world needs more Maryvonnes and she will be missed by many.

I have known Maryvonne for the last twenty years as her hairdresser. During our hour long chats we shared many of life's challenges we endured.
Maryvonne always inspired me by her beautiful gentle and always positive perspective to life, regardless of what she was dealing with.

Maryvonne was such a kind heart.

As I write this, I'm listening to the above song by the Pied Pumpkin, a somewhat alternative Vancouver band that she & I loved dancing to throughout the 70's.

It's been seven days of tears, riding the waves of grief & sharing love & memories with friends from all over the world who were touched by Maryvonne.

I had the blessing of sharing a long & deep friendship with Maryvonne - I met her when she was 16 & I was 19 - & this loss will be a challenging journey for me, & all who knew her.

Soon after meeting, Maryvonne & I fell in love, & in a matter of months, we began living together.  We were married on December 4th, 1976 in Vancouver, and though our marriage didn't last, our love for each other & friendship did.  I have known few people who were as loyal as Maryvonne, & she was one of my greatest teachers about this form of love.

Many of you know that life is not fair, & in the case of Maryvonne this was, sadly, part of her journey in this world: some of the challenges seem especially undeserving for one such as her.  However, even in the face of some of the worst trials, her ability to find a way to authentically live & love is one of the most precious, meaningful & inspiring gifts - sometimes blessings - that I have received from a friendship.

Before her surgery, in March 2014, when I asked Maryvonne what to tell those people who care for her, she answered: ask them to simply send me positive thoughts, life-affirming prayers, from their power place.  I ask you, from the deepest part of your being, to please do that for her now, in this time of transition.

Iti is with great sadness that I acknowledge Maryvonne's passing.  We shared walks with our dogs along Kits beach, dinners, long conversations, and especially a vacation trip to Hawaii just a few short years ago.  I will miss her wit, positive spirit, awesome smile, and genuine kindness and send my condolences to her family.
