Robert Andrew Clark was born on his mother’s birthday November 24, 1924 in Mannville, Alberta. Raised with 4 siblings by their Scottish parents, John and Elsie, Dad spent his childhood on the family farm…a prairie boy through and through. He had many tales of the mischief he got into with his siblings.
After high school Dad ventured off to look for work in Vancouver and it was there that he first saw Bertha Josefine Hilstad, originally a prairie girl herself. It was definitely love at first sight. In 1953, Dad married this knockout and just this fall they celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary. What a love! What a commitment!
Retirement was not the end of Dad’s story though. He and Mom bought and operated for a number of years the Bigfoot Campground in Harrison. How he loved to roam that property with his faithful dog Stormy, enjoying the beauty of nature and chatting with the summer visitors. Upon selling the campground Mom and Dad moved back to Chilliwack, to Cheam Avenue. This is where they have both spent their senior years, Dad reading his Bible and pursuing his spirituality. Eventually he wrote a book and started up a website which became his passion.
Dad was a storyteller, a gifted joke teller and could sing the old Scottish songs with such a brogue, you couldn’t help but laugh. You will be sorely missed.
Always a dreamer, an adventurer and a risk taker, Dad did everything from farming to gold mining, construction on the Cambie St. Bridge to owning and operating a campground. However most of his years were spent in the car business. He loved everything about the car business. He spent many years at Brett Chev Olds and from there became sales manager at Buchannan's Pontiac Buick up until his retirement.
