Growing up, Russ moved a few times, living from Haida Gwaii to Vancouver before finally settling down in Chilliwack. Through each change of place, he carried with him a steady warmth that helped him connect wherever he landed—an open, kind-hearted presence that made people feel at ease.
In early 2006 Russ met Anne Voak, and they were engaged for a few years. Even though they were not together anymore, Anne still holds a place for Russell in her heart. Together, Russ and Anne welcomed two children, Christina Davis. and Jamie Davis
A reader and a cook at heart, Russ found comfort and joy in simple, everyday pleasures—time with a good book, or the care and creativity of making a meal. Russ turned his passion for cooking into a way to earn a living, working at McDonalds, A&W, Five Guys Burgers, as well as The Best Western Hotel as a prep cook and dishwasher. Those who knew him best will remember not only his big heart, but also the unmistakable brightness of his smile, complete with dimples, and a sense of humour that could lighten a room. Beloved by many, he made friends everywhere he went, leaving behind memories marked by gentleness and genuine care.
Russ was predeceased by his mother, Belina Gurney, and his cousin, Patrick Goheen. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Christina Davis; his son, Jamie Davis; his sisters, Teresa Gurney and Victoria Gurney (Jessie); his brother, John Dixon; and his father, Russell Davis. Russ leaves behind other brothers, and sisters; nieces, and nephews; as well as many dear friends.
