Sandra Lynne Quayle passed away Jan. 30, 2022 in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 73. She was born Feb. 29, 1948 in Chilliwack, BC. Sandi is survived by her husband Allen, her daughter Alandra, and her son Steven (Lynn), her grandchildren Sophia, Emma, and Miles, her brothers Keith (Sharon) and David (Rhoda), and many other beloved family members. She was predeceased by her parents Jean and Clair Alaric, and in a tragic accident in 1972 her sister Nola and her brothers Kia Ora (Bingo) and Earl.
Sandi spent most of her life in Hope, as did at least 5 generations of her family before her. She spent her young life surrounded by her large extended family, and always spoke fondly of this part of her life. She was an excellent student and played basketball and volleyball in her high school years. After graduation, she worked in the post office and even to the end could remember the box numbers of most of the residents of Hope. She married Allen in January 1970, in the midst of a harsh blizzard that was enough to make her late for her own wedding. They built their house together in Hope, and it remained their home for 46 years, until they moved to Chilliwack in 2018 to be closer to family. Sandi fulfilled her greatest wish, to become a mother, in 1974 and 1978 when Alandra and then Steven were born. She thrived as a stay-at-home mom and loving wife, and as the kids grew older she volunteered and then worked in various capacities in the schools and became the town’s youth bowling coach. She was a supportive landlady to many in Hope over the years. When the kids were grown, Sandi and Allen bought the Hope Brewing Company. Sandi worked long hard hours to build a successful business as well as many wonderful friendships with loyal customers, who always had a fun time bottling their products with her help. Then came grandkids, and it was time to retire and take on her most fulfilling role, Granny. She loved nothing more than to play games or go swimming with Sophia, Emma, and Miles. She also spent a lot of time in her later years providing loving and compassionate care to many elderly family members who needed an extra hand. Her happy place was in the water, whether snorkeling in Hawaii, lounging in a pool or floating away across Lake of the Woods. We will always think of her warm smile and generous spirit, and never forget the love she had for every one of us.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 21, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Hope, BC. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, vaccine passports will be required for attendance, and there will also be a livestream available at https://m.youtube.com/c/GBCHope.
Donations in her memory may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation. The family would like to thank Dr. Heather Leyen, Dr. Zulfiqar and Dr. Nikolakis for their excellent care.
