We, the family of Stanley Lyle Nickel, announce with deepest sadness, his passing from our lives on November 23, 2019 at Cascades Hospice in Chilliwack, after a struggle with complications from diabetes.
He was born in Chilliwack on August 31, 1951 to Alvin (deceased) and Florence Nickel and was the oldest of 5 children. He was also predeceased by his Aunt Mary Nickel (Calgary), brother-in-law Harry Schmidt, mother-in-law Olga Schmidt and father-in-law Hermann Schmidt.
Stan began his career working for the D.O.T. doing construction surveys, then for McElhanney from 1970—1984 doing legal and topographic surveys. Through decisive dedication he achieved his BCLS in 1985 and in turn opened his own business. He then continued forward to further achieve his CLS in 1991 while running Stan Nickel Surveying until his retirement in 2011.
He is remembered with love by Helen; son Eric (Peggy); daughter Christel; son Sheldon; his beloved grandkids Hailey, Bowden, Tyson and Ryder; mother Florence; brothers Robin, Lynn (Elaine); sisters Diane, Dalyce (Murray); brother-in-law Henry; nephews and nieces, extended family and many cherished friends.
His greatest joys in life revolved around times spent in the middle of his family, of which he was so very proud. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, working as a community member on a variety of local organizations, his seat at the Chilliwack Chiefs games, as well as his predictable presence at his grandsons hockey games.
The family would like to thank everyone for all of your love and support. It truly helps heal the heart.
