

Northe – Ted Smith (ted northe) 74 passed away peacefully early March 30, 2014 at Saint Paul’s Hospital following a long battle with cancer. Ted was born September 13, 1939 in Alberta. He was raised by his loving parents and grandmother in the Fraser Valley. ted travelled as a young man but soon came to settle in Vancouver which he called home and remained thereafter. He is survived by older brother John, sisters Joan and Katie, along with nieces, nephews and their children Nolan and Hanna Denham, Liam, Ewan and Aurora England whom he loved so much. Also survived by many special friends he called his family. He has too many of this family in his lifetime to name, but in recent years Susan, Derek, Paul, Molly, Reg, Edgar, Shane, Janine, Darshun, Luglio, Seng and Earl. Special mention should also go to his favorite coffee shop Delany’s where he made a new family of friends including staff and management.
Mr.northe has been honoured with the Canadian Red Cross Humanitarian and Distinguished Citizen Award; British Columbia Cancer Society Citizen’s Award for Fundraising; the Governor General’s Special Service Medal for Distinguished Citizen and Humanitarian; Certificate of Special USA Congressional Recognition; the Saskatchewan Canadian Award; Rita Rhinestone Pegasus Humanitarian Award; 1st recipient of the Jose’ Awards in San Diego Ca. He was also given: Key to San Francisco; Key to Portland; Citizenship Award (Bay Area Reporter); Empress II of Ensenada Mexico and many others.
Mr. northe's title in his community was "The Empress of Canada" and has been recognized internationally by media, community groups, and governments, including the government of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Monarch of the British Commonwealth and Queen of Canada. In 2012 was honoured with the Meritorious Diamond Jubilee Medal.
ted loved travelling, gardening, boating and his community work. He began many organizations that will continue and we are thankful for his lifetime achievements.
ted will always be in our minds and hearts.
