November 5, 1943 – May 2, 2026
Norma Iona Evangeline McLeod, lovingly known as Vangie, passed away peacefully in Hospice care, on May 2, 2026.
Vangie will be sadly missed by her beloved husband, Greg; her daughter & son-in-law, Barbra & Lorne; her grandchildren, Sean & Shana Lynn (& fiancé Liam); her niece & nephew, Missy & Eddie; her half-siblings, Al, Pete & Molly; her sisters-in-law & bothers-in-law, Maddy & Clive McLeod (nephews: Chris & Tyler), Carol & Brian Hadland (nieces: Wendy & Heather). She will be remembered with love by all who knew her.
Vangie is predeceased by her mother, Iona Moss; her father, Allan McGuire; her stepdad, Milton Moss; and her brother, Ed McGuire.
Vangie was born on November 5, 1943, in Wiarton, Ontario to Iona & Allan McGuire. In her early years, she lived with her mother (Iona) and brother (Ed). When Vangie was 15, she moved to Kitchener, Ontario, when her mother married Milton Moss. After graduating high school, Vangie went on to complete her training as a Registered Nurse.
Following her studies, Vangie moved to Prince Rupert, BC where she worked at the hospital. While in Prince Rupert she met the love of her life: Gregor Allan McLeod. On October 6, 1967, they were married, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 59 years! Together, they welcomed their daughter, Barbra, on April 27, 1973. Vangie formed close and lasting bonds with Greg’s family in Prince Rupert, including his parents, John and Betty McLeod, and his siblings and their spouses, Carol and Brian Hadland, and Clive and Maddy McLeod.
Vangie dedicated many years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to the workforce as a nurse and later, as a childcare worker within the Prince Rupert School District. She was known for her caring nature, quiet strength, and deep commitment to her faith and family.
After retirement, Vangie and Greg remained in Prince Rupert until moving to Chilliwack in 2009, which allowed Vangie to live just down the road from her precious grandchildren. Vangie adored being a grandma to Sean and Shana Lynn! Whenever Grandma visited, you could guarantee there would be treats. She loved her family and friends SO well!
Vangie courageously battled various forms of cancer for 20 years but her faith in Jesus as her Lord, Saviour & Provider never wavered. It would be the desire of her heart to see every person come to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
The family respectfully asks that in leu of flowers, donations be made to the BC Cancer Foundation or Chilliwack Hospice Society.
