With love and gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Virginia Rosalind "Gini" Herdson, who died peacefully on June 27, 2025, at 86, surrounded by her devoted family in Tsawwassen, B.C.
Born in Montreal on May 7, 1939, Gini married Malcolm, the love of her life, and together they shared over 50 years of marriage. After beginning their life together in Montreal, they moved west in 1977, settling first in Vancouver, B.C. before finding their true home in the lakeside communities of Harrison Hot Springs and Agassiz, where they built a life filled with purpose and community.
A Certified General Accountant (CGA), Gini balanced professionalism with creativity, dedicating years to Girl Guides, Rovers and Rangers (where she first met Malcolm), and her beloved craft group at Bear Mountain Crafts. Her adventurous spirit took the couple around the world, while her green thumb created beautiful gardens at home. Well into her 80s, she maintained an active lifestyle, regularly achieving 10,000 daily steps on her neighborhood walks and treasuring her Monday outings with friends.
Gini's faith was central to her life as a devoted member of Agassiz United Church. Though she grieved deeply when Malcolm passed, she carried their love with her always. In her later years, she found special happiness in her relationship with Bud, who brought her renewed joy.
Nothing brought Gini more pride than her children. She adored Susan and Callum, and could often be found sharing stories about them with anyone who would listen. Her face would light up whenever she spoke of her family.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Malcolm Herdson and sister Mary Lang, Gini is survived by her children **Susan Harris-Fenn (Michael)** and Callum Herdson (Tracy); grandchildren Ryan Harris (Erin) and Dustin Harris (Lisa); great-grandchildren Dean, Brooke, Austin, and Jaxon; and countless friends who were like family.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all of Gini's caregivers, with special thanks to Jessica for her love and kindness shown to our mother in her final months.
A memorial service celebrating Virginia's life will be held in September 2025 at Agassiz United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in Virginia's memory.
