Wilbert Edwin Diewert, born July 5th, 1937, in Vancouver, passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2025, shortly after his 88th birthday. The youngest of three born to Emil and Martha Diewert, he grew up on the family farm on Gibson Road in Chilliwack, starting his farming career at age 7.
At 17 he committed his life to Jesus, a faith that guided him always. He was active in his church’s youth group, met Frieda in the church choir, and married her in 1961 after waiting 3 long years for her to become a registered nurse. They had two daughters, Lynette and Donna. The family grew when Lynette married Andre de Zwaan and Donna married Gregg Stiles.
Wilbert was a successful dairy and vegetable farmer, he loved John Deere tractors, and shared a gift for hospitality with Frieda, hosting many at their home.
He enjoyed retirement more than milking cows and went on three mission trips with Frieda. Together they enjoyed travelling, snowbirding, meeting people, southern gospel music, bike riding, playing games, fishing, and fun family times. Wilbert always cherished his time with family, friends, and church.
He is survived by his wife Frieda; daughters, Lynette (Andre) de Zwaan, and Donna (Gregg) Stiles; grandchildren, Ryan (Sara) de Zwaan, Nicole (Darnell) Reimer, and Mitchell, Conner, and Lucas Stiles; great-grandchildren Jude, Remi, and Isla de Zwaan, and Lainey Reimer; and sister, Grace Wegner. As well as many extended relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Martha Diewert, Sister Erma, and great-grandson Leo de Zwaan.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Monday July 28, 2025 at 2:00, at the Chilliwack Alliance Church, 8700 Young Road Chilliwack.
