

Born in Iredell County on August 8, 1951, he was the son of the late W. J. Whitaker and Reba Whitaker.
In addition to his parents, Avery was also preceded in death by his sister, Diane Dalton; his wife, Grace Whitaker; niece, Tammy Miller and nephew Daniel Fincher.
Avery was a veteran of the United States Army and very active in his church, serving as a deacon at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
He worked for Phillip Morris for many years, and many of his hobbies included riding motorcycles, woodturning, and making wine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Jeff Whitaker and Myron Whitaker; sisters, Patricia “Trisha” Hollar (Dan) and Kathy Fincher; nieces and nephews, Angie Miller, Amanda Dancy, Jason Whitaker, Patric Hollar, Michael Whitaker, Amber Williams, Dalton Whitaker and Miranda Whitaker.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 30, 2026, from 11:00AM – 12:30 PM at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church 509 W. 22nd Street Kannapolis, NC.
The funeral service will begin at 12:30 PM with Rev. George Morris officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC at 2:30 PM.
