

Born in Rowan County on January 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Marcus Deaton McKnight, Sr. and Wilma Grace Albright McKnight.
In addition to her parents, Doris was also preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Franklin Sechler, with whom she shared 74 years together. They married on September 8, 1949, and he passed away May 30, 2024. Also preceding her are two brothers, Albert Donald McKnight and Marcus Deaton “M.D.” McKnight, Jr.
Doris graduated from China Grove High School – Class of 1947 and attended Kings College until she married. At age 49, she went to work at Laguna Sportswear and then at Rowan Memorial Hospital in the Food Service Department until she retired at age 65.
Early in life, Doris was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Landis. Upon marrying Hugh, she moved her membership to Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, where she served in the nursery, taught Bible school, cooked and helped with fundraising meals and was a member of the Nancy Fisher Circle.
Doris loved to read, sew, crochet, work jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and feed the birds. She also enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Brenda Raney (David); three grandchildren, Darren Raney, Daniel Raney (Lindsay) and Bruce Raney (Cindy), and two great-grandchildren, Brynna Raney and Maverick Moore.
She is further survived by her sister, Grace McKnight Reynolds and sister-in-law, Mary Ann McKnight.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ.
The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jim Simonds officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
