Gary Ray Propst Sr.

Mr. Gary Ray Propst Sr. 70 of China Grove passed away on Thursday August 18, 2016 at his residence. Born on January 1, 1946 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Frank Oscar and Margaret Lucile Smith Propst. A 1964 graduate of South Rown High School, he was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was a longtime active member of the Eureka Masonic Lodge 283 and the Rowan County Shriners. His adult professional lifework has been in the seafood business, where he was a former member of the NC Legislature of Seafood and Aquaculture and the National Fisheries Institute. He was vice president of Frank Propst and Sons Seafood, president of Consolidated Seafood, vice president and general manager of Fass Brothers, corporate vice president of Atlas Companies and president and owner of Surf and Turf Sales and Marketing.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lorena Walters Propst, son Gary Ray Propst Jr. (Kim) of China Grove, brother Mark Propst of Charlotte and sister Brenda Propst Harrington (Dennis) of Raleigh. Also surviving him is his granddaughter Kourtney Rae Propst.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00 til 8:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral on Sunday at 3:00 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Kay Overcash, minister.
