

Mr. Joel Wright Thompson, 85 of Mooresville (Enochville area), passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House. He was born on March 13, 1932 in China Grove, NC, but grew up in Thomasville, NC. He was the son of the late John Thomas Thompson and Hattie Wright Thompson Clodfelter. Joel worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Southern Railroad and then retired from the Norfolk- Southern with 37 years of service. During his tenure on the railroad, he was Local Chairman for29 years, serving the members of Local 783 United Transportation Union. After retiring, Joel and his son Alan renovated homes. He was a member of Landis Baptist Church for 45 years. He also served as a deacon and frequently volunteered his time in various ways at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Coleen Ruth Henley Thompson; two sons, J. Wesley Thompson (Trey Owen) of Charlotte, Alan C. Thompson (Cindy) of Salisbury, daughters Dani Thompson Howard (Sean) of Sidney, Australia and Lorrie Thompson Coulson (Stephen) of Roswell, Ga. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Thorin Thompson of Charlotte, Alana Thompson of Charlotte and Meghan Arrowwood of Seoul, Korea.
Mr. Thompson was also survived by a brother Carl Conley Thompson and a sister Faye Corbett both of Thomasville and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Landis Baptist Church in Landis, officiated by Pastor Richie Honeycutt. The family will receive friends on June 30, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove.
