Joyce Lee Simmons

Joyce Lee Simmons was born at Lawrence Hospital in Mooresville NC on August 21,1941. She was the daughter of the late Ralph E. Sipes and Ada L Lail. She had 7 siblings, James, Robert, Maxine, George, Kathy, Ann and Patty.Gowing up Joyce was involved in church. She enjoyed cooking. Joyce graduated from West Rowan High School in 1960. Growing up, Joyce's friends were Faye Christy and Ruby Hastings, and later in life became friends with Johnsy Sacher and Susan Jones. Joyce married Hubert Reid Simmons on June 17, 1962 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ. She and Hubert had 3 children, Reid, Michael and Eric. She had 6 grandchildren, Zachery, Michael, Josh,Daniel, Luke, and Elizabeth. She was a housewife and enjoyed sewing. She also enjoyed doing puzzles. She enjoyed watching basketball. Joyce was a member of Corriher Heights Baptist Church, where she was a secretary and treasurer and helped in the nursery. Joyce earned the Mother of the Year award two years in a row at the church. She enjoyed taking vacations to White Lake NC, NC mountains and Ocean Lake SC. Bear and Missy were her pet dogs, of which she had for 18 years. Also she had several pet fish and cats. Joyce retired in 2003 and stayed at home with her husband Hubert. Joyce developed problems with cardio basal degeneration. She passed away at home, survived by everyone except her mother and father and sister Patty. She was laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord.
