

Mrs. Shirley Jean Nichols Smith, age 79 of Salisbury, peacefully passed away in the early hours of Monday, May 24, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley has gained her angel wings her on earth and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. Born December 8, 1941 in Rowan County, Shirley was the daughter of the late William Nichols and Margaret Marie Yost Nichols. In addition to her parents, her brothers, Billy Nichols, A.C. Leach, Jimmie Nichols, and Harvey Ray Nichols and sister, Blanche “PeeWee” Mabe all preceded her in death.
Shirley was raised at the Methodist Children’s Home in Winston Salem and was of Pentecostal faith. She was a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston Salem.
Her career began with working at Cannon Mills in the weave room for 8 years. Shirley left Cannon Mills and began working for PPG Glass where she spent 29 years in the forming department and retired from there. Most recently, after her retirement, she was a food demonstrator for both Food Lion and Harris Teeter.
In her spare time, she loved to garden and grow beautiful flowers. Shirley was such a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was a loving provider, who loved her family dearly. She loved people and never met a stranger. She was such a strong woman with an incredibly giving heart. Shirley was full of personality with lots of sass and a smile that will stay with her family forever. She will be truly missed and forever in the hearts of her precious family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Arthur Smith; her son, John Stuckenschneider and daughter Michele Stuckenschneider Beck. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jessica Ritchie, Joshua (Brandi), Cody and Jackson Stuckenschneider, as well as great-grandchildren, Miles and Zachary Stuckenschneider; numerous nieces and nephews, her special friend, Debbie Lasley Bowman, her fur baby, Abby and too many friends to count.
Visitation for Shirley will be on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Chapel Service will follow at 3:00pm officiated by Pastor Eddie Graham.
