Winston Albert DeMerchant, 93, of Harrisburg, went home to be with Jesus, Friday, December 9, 2016. Winston was born on October 28, 1923, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, to the late Oscar and Iva DeMerchant. He was a World War II Army veteran who proudly served in the South Pacific for four years. He was retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Company where he was involved with manufacturing jet engines.
Winston loved Jesus and his actions reflected that. He was always helping others. He was a regular visitor to Cabarrus County nursing homes and the hospital, where he visited the sick and the lonely. He touched the lives of children for many years by making wooden toys and giving them away. His car’s trunk was always filled with wooden racecars and bubble gum machines so he could bless a child that he met at the post office or local restaurant.
Winston is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blanche, his son Richard, four sisters, Geraldine, Pearl, Shirley, and Bearl, and a brother Donald. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Mitzi, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a brother Derald, a sister Avis, and many close friends. Winston will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 2:00pm, at Carolina Memorial Park of Harrisburg. Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Arrangements under the direction of Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, NC.
