Eric was born Oct 5, 1988, at Queen of the Valley Hospital, West Covina, California to Sam Vander Veen and Claudia (CHRIS) Vander Veen. He was brought home to the house he lived in all his life.
Eric attended Christ Lutheran Church Preschool and Kindergarten in Chino. He attended Walnut Ave School, Chino; Magnolia Jr. High, Chino; and graduated from Chino High School with the class of 2006.
He was on the Chino High football team in his senior year. He played AYSO and was selected for several all-star teams. He played several years in the American League T-ball and baseball team. He also played for the Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine indoor mixed soccer, where his mother worked.
Eric became interested in techno music. He started learning how to “compose” his own music and was soon one of the house DJS at Space Taco in Pomona. His DJ name was SURFMYSTER. He worked for hours composing his own music. He had his own turntables and computer in the front room of the house and the room was filled usually filled with young people he was teaching or counseling. He was signed to a contract and two of his songs were accepted for the label. He was really on his way- there was no stopping SURFMYSTER!
Eric is survived by his parents, his older brothers Dennis Grant (Tisha), Florida; Michael Grant, Florida; Sean Grant, Texas; and his sister Darby Grant, Texas. He is also survived by his “soulmate” Angi Elders, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many, many of his music friends. The kids on the street he grew up with: Raul, Miguel, and Carlos. We all miss and love you Eric!
