My condolences and the condolences of the 12th Cavalry Regiment Association to all who knew and loved Sergeant John Franklin Bailey, Company C, 2nd Battalion 12th Cavalry Regiment. The duty and service of John to his Nation, the Army, the First Cavalry Division, and the 12th Cavalry Regiment will never be forgotten, and will always be honored in our memories and in the gatherings of our veterans. 

We all individually and collectively mourn the great loss to us, to his friends, and to his family of such an outstanding Trooper. On his final ride to Fiddlers Green John is not alone; he is in the companionship of the fine and noble souls in uniform who preceded him on this ride, and he carries with him the thoughts and prayers of those who served, and those who continue to serve today in the 12th Cavalry Regiment. 

For The Fallen

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is a music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncountered:
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables at home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end they remain.

Becky and Family, We're so sorry for your loss. I'll always cherish the camaraderie John and I shared. He was such a bright spot at our reunions with his big smile, terrific laugh and kind words. You are dearly missed John! Hasta luego.

Dear Becky, Malinda and Mike,
I am truly saddened by the news of John's passing. He was so proud of you and the family.
John and I were in the same company in Vietnam, but we didn't really connect until a reunion several years ago. We talked for hours and hours about the fighting and survivingwho lived and who didn't. We both agreed that living this long was a real blessing when we saw so many that never made it past their early 20's when we were in Vietnam together. John was a good soldier and a good man. I was proud to call him a friend. I miss him dearly.

John was a mans man, as tuff as nails. One of my favorite cousins. I loved it when he and Joe would come and visit, he would always have a story to tell. Boy could he tell them too.  I remember when I told him and Joe a joke on Uncle Willard he about fell off of the porch. Always fun to be around, always smiling and good natured. I'm going to miss him.
God Bless you Becky and all the youngins and grandkids. Me and Judy will keep you'all in our prayers during your time of grief.

John was the man you wanted next to you in a fox hole. He was honest, hard working and brave. We bonded as brothers and that bond will last forever. 

I am so sorry for your loss. Becky ,Malinda and Mike, you were everything to John.
